A great journey… A new love…. A dark secret revealed. Evreux, France, 1788: Before she is Zoey's favorite professor and the House of Night's powerful horse mistress… Lenobia is just a normal 16-year-old girl – with enough problems to last a lifetime. As the illegitimate daughter of a powerful baron, she has never quite belonged, and instead has to watch her spoiled half-sister, Cecile, get anything she wants. As if that's not enough, her remarkable beauty draws unwanted attention wherever she goes. For once, she would like to just fit in. But when fate intervenes, Lenobia suddenly finds herself surrounded by other girls, on a ship bound for New Orleans, where they will be married off to the city's richest Frenchmen. And they're not alone…. An evil bishop who is skilled in Dark magic makes the same journey. His appetite for lovely young women makes him dangerous – most of all to Lenobia, who caught his eye back in France. So she remains hidden, making secret visits to the ship's stables, where a handsome young man and his beautiful Percheron horses soon capture her attention. Will they make it to land before the bishop discovers her true identity and a powerful evil breaks loose? And will Lenobia follow her heart, even if it puts lives at risk? "I enjoyed this novella as a kind of Book 8.75 in the main House of Night series. OK, the "authorized" description writeup for this book/ novella is SO wrong it's pathetic. This book primarily deals with Lenobia's 2-month long ship voyage from France to New Orleans in 1788, not her life in a small Southern town at the turn of the century (which usually refers to the late 1800's not the late 1700's). Aside from that major issue, which is the main reason that I no longer read the backs of books or the inner sleeves or the editorial descriptions of any book until AFTER I read said book. It wasn't great but at least they didn't try to make it into a full novel; I respect that they didn't try to make this into a full novel. It was a nice background story on an older character of the main series and I thank the authors for treating us, the readers, with this. If you love the series then don't miss this. There's no crucial information to be found here but it's a nice quick read."

Caitlin Davies gently balances the emotional tenors of her journey with convincing French and Creole accents…Listeners will find themselves most captivated, though, by the tender love that Lenobia develops with a Creole horse hand named Martin.
— AudioFile Magazine" Pretty good. More girl power which is what makes these books so enjoyable. In 1788, Lenobia is a strong female character as was the nun. I wish we had more info about the bishop though, why did he have an affinity for fire, I don't believe he was a vampyre. Also good job with the evil pedophile Catholic priest, pretty timely. "
— Lisa, 2/10/2014" Easy read. Enjoyable and interesting. I really like these side novella books from the House of Night series "
— Janelle, 2/8/2014" amazingly good. I've never read a novella before nd I'm glad this was my first. "
— Deborah, 1/26/2014" Oh Lenobia, poor sweet Lenobia "
— Mel, 1/6/2014" This book slots into the House of Night series. If you did not read the series yet, do not attempt this book - you'll be totally lost. I love that the author chose Lenobia to tell her story. Enjoyed it! "
— â™”, 12/30/2013" The Dude that like wanted her and was a pervert made me want to puke. In The picture he looked extremely repulsive and made me just want to rip up the page because he looked so ugly. But sadly I cant because its The libraries book and if I mess it up im gonna have to pay for it. :( "
— Maricrystal/Century, 12/29/2013" Great little addition to the House Of Night Series! I love these novellas and the fact that we get a glimpse of where the professors come from and how they became vampires. "

— Kimberly, 11/8/2013" I'm disappointed a bit... it was worse than the first novella. I couldn't feel the sadness of the novella. I can't say I liked it because that would be a lie. I think it's my infinite love towards this series which made me give 4,5 stars for this novella. "
— Abstract, 5/30/2013" Nice quick read giving incite to Lenobia and why she has lived her life this way. "
— Jamie, 5/11/2013" OK story. Not sure that it was necessary for the series. "
— Cookie, 4/22/2013" Its a little disappointing that these books on the teachers are so short...I appreciate that she is giving us these stories but for $10 you would think she could give us a little bit more....But really love this series..I still feel Aphrodite is my favorite.... "
— Chris, 2/13/2013" Was really looking forwrd to this book as Lenobia was one of my favourite characters from the very beginning of House Of Night and it didn't disappoint. I really enjoyed reading about where she came from and how she got her scars. Definitie read for all fans of House Of Night. "
