Publisher Description

A New York Times bestseller! What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem. From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias's death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets. Full of nonstop action, suspense, and romance, this novel is sure to move readers as much as it thrills.

"After reading the Matched trilogy, I was in desperate need of a more action packed story line. I primarily gave this book 4 stars because I enjoyed Marie Lu's in the moment style of writing. However, the plot was pretty predictable, the story felt rushed and unfolded rather quickly. I enjoyed the main characters, June and Day, for the most part but mainly because i'm a sucker for a couple of good bad asses. I think the story could have dove deeper into June's family. Maybe more detailed back stories about her parents and her brother, Metias, which would have added some complexity and depth to the story. Specifically their discoveries of the Republic's secrets and the events leading to their deaths. I think I may be starting to become a little apathetic to the YA Distopia genre after the last few series I have read which have been less than memorable but overall, I enjoyed the book for what is was worth and would recommend it to pass the time."

" This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. There was plenty of action and it was driven by love for family and between June and Day. I had originally picked it up because in the author's bio it said she was inspired while watching Les Miserables. You can see plenty of connections but it is also (in itself) a good story. I was captivated by the plot and would read for pages at a time. I can't wait for the 2nd book! "

" Loved this! It is another dystopian society book, so it kinda of has a been there done that feel. Despite that I really enjoyed it. Well written, good characters. "

" I really enjoyed this as I'm currently really into books with distopian themes. Definitely an easy read which is what I'm looking for in books right now because as a new mother I'm tired all the time and I need a book that doesn't drag on and put me to sleep... action starting on page one which is wonderful! " I read this in a day. Actually less than a day, it's a quick read. I looked Lu's handling of dystopia, which is becoming a tired trope in YA fiction. In her hand, it felt fresh. Looking forward to reading the next one! "

" Still excellent the second time around! Wish it had a map of the city sectors tho. I want to jump right into Prodigy. I wonder if it will reveal what happens to Ollie? You know I worry about the canine characters, however minor they may be. "
