Two hard-headed, passionate people . . . Two stubborn opponents with tender souls . . . Sometimes wars of the heart can only be won through the sweetest of surrenders.
The War Between the States may be over for the rest of the country, but not for Kit Weston. Disguised as a boy, she's come to New York City to kill Baron Cain, the man who stands between her and Risen Glory, the South Carolina home she loves. But unknown to Kit, the Yankee war hero is more than her bitterest enemy—he's also her guardian. And he'll be a lot harder to kill than she's figured on . . .
Believing that Kit's a boy, Cain offers the grubby rapscallion a job in his stable. But he has no idea what he's in for, and it's not long before the hero of Missionary Ridge discovers the truth. His scamp of a stable boy is a strong-willed, violet-eyed beauty who's hell-bent on driving him crazy.

"Listened to audio book. I'm not sure I'd have rated this book as highly if I'd read it, because it's a pretty old-fashioned story, with the hero and heroine at odds throughout the entire book and spending a lot of time apart.... there's a forced marriage and even a classic spanking scene. (I have to wonder what it was like before she rewrote and presumably updated it!) But the reading was excellent and made it really enjoyable."

" romance novel about two strong-willed people who must learn the give-and-take of loving relationship... "
— Katy, 2/2/2014" This one was ok, but not Phillips best, by far. If you like all her books, still read it, but it doesn't have that magic that most of her others have. "
— Katie, 1/17/2014" First novel of SEP and her first historical too. :) I like the plot with resemblance of the novel Gone with the Wind and especially her hero & heroine. Worth trying, definitely a keeper. But I liked its first title "Risen Glory", it fits more perfectly than "Just Imagine". Well, just imagine. :D "
— Chris, 1/14/2014" Exciting, funny and romantic! "
— Elina, 1/12/2014" Smart and funny! "
— Ivy, 1/4/2014" Just a warning- these are not LDS romance books! Susan Elizabeth Phillips isn't LDS, so read these if you want to add "spice" to your marriage. "
— Jenny, 1/4/2014" This was the first one I'd read of her's that was historical, and I enjoyed the post-civil war setting. "
— Jill, 12/25/2013" I liked this book. Typical Susan Elizabeth Phillips book. She is definitely my favorite romance novel writer. "
— Andrea, 12/10/2013" A delightful historical read, indeed. "
— Marleen, 12/7/2013" I can't really say why I loved this book so much when I read it a few years ago. It was an easy and enjoyable read and I loved the characters struggle to find who they were and what they meant to each other. "
— Kristen, 12/5/2013" Susan Elizabeth Phillips knows what she's writing about and she's an excellent writer. While reading her books I rarely roll my eyes. And believe me, I roll my eyes quite a lot when it comes to this genre. "
— BlebeTanja, 12/4/2013" I love SEP and this book was very her. It almost earned 3 stars but there was just something missing for me about this book. I could never truly understand the characters motives or why they behaved the way they did. It was a good read...i finished the thing so that says something right there.... "
— Katie, 11/27/2013" love everything by her "
— Lani1, 11/14/2013" Why am I listening to this crap? "
— Melissa, 11/9/2013" This historical romance had an exciting beginning and plenty of action that moved right along but the animosity between the hero and heroine went on a bit too long with not enough re-building of the relationship. Disguised as a boy, Kit goes to New York City to kill Baron Cain. "
— Dawn, 8/28/2013" This is set in the States after the American civil war. He's a yankee, she's a southern girl, there's a lot of anger and nastiness, but it had a good if predictable ending. "
— ~Sara~, 6/28/2013" Dies ist der einzige Historical, den SEP je geschrieben hat. Ich habe das Buch sehr, sehr gerne gelesen und kann es jedem Fan der Autorin empfehlen! "
— Sabrina, 5/7/2013" this is definitely gone with the wind minus the ending. "
— jo, 2/9/2013" we should move on with life.. we must not get tied to our past.... "
— Leslee, 12/5/2012" An awful attempt to recreate Woodiwiss' Ashes in the Wind. neither of the lead characters have anything going for them, which made this an impossible slog that I decided not to bother. "
— Bree, 7/24/2012" highly recommended... "
— Joan, 7/5/2012" One of the best books I read. Has the feel of Gone With the Wind post Civil War reconstruction period. But this story and characters stand on their own. Wonderful romance between Baron and Kit who must come to grips that instead of hating each other, they are passionately in love. "
— Bob, 6/29/2012" I did not enjoy this book. I didn't even finish reading it. I gave up, it was boring. My least favorite among SEP's book. Such a disappointment. "
— Katherine, 4/25/2012" Very predictable and too much graphic sex. The story got a little tedius. "
— Jane, 11/22/2011" Muy tierno *.* "

— Bob, 4/26/2011" Review coming for Speaking of Audiobooks at a later date. "
— Lea's, 3/10/2011" kinda weird and not at all what I expected... to many strange twists <br/>Fantastic emotional roller coaster.... first book in a long time that I have actually cried over "
— Carrie, 2/5/2011" I can't believe I missed this book. I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips! This was a post civil war romance and I loved Kit. As usual the heroine in this book was strong willed and funny. A must read. "

— Stephanie, 1/11/2011" pretty good a bit like gone with the wind thought the heroine is much more lovable "
— Little, 11/29/2010" Very predictable and too much graphic sex. The story got a little tedius. "
