In Wyoming for a medical conference, Boston medical examiner Maura Isles joins a group of friends on a spur-of-the-moment ski trip. But when their SUV stalls on a snow-choked mountain road, they’re stranded with no help in sight.
As night falls, the group seeks refuge from the blizzard in the remote village of Kingdom Come, where twelve eerily identical houses stand dark and abandoned. Something terrible has happened in Kingdom Come: Meals sit untouched on tables, cars are still parked in garages. The town’s previous residents seem to have vanished into thin air, but footprints in the snow betray the presence of someone who still lurks in the cold darkness—someone who is watching Maura and her friends.
Days later, Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli receives the grim news that Maura’s charred body has been found in a mountain ravine. Shocked and grieving, Jane is determined to learn what happened to her friend. The investigation plunges Jane into the twisted history of Kingdom Come, where a gruesome discovery lies buried beneath the snow. As horrifying revelations come to light, Jane closes in on an enemy both powerful and merciless—and the chilling truth about Maura’s fate.

"This is a good Rizzoli and Isles murder mystery, quite a page-turner. The references to a cult are a bit exaggerated, I thought, but overall the story holds together well, with a couple of interesting twists."
— Katie (4 out of 5 stars)
" My first Rizolli and Isles "
— Martha, 2/16/2014" I read this book out of order, so some of the suspense was lost for me. However, I thought it was a good tale and would suggest it to others. "
— Cynthia, 2/13/2014" It was a fast read with an interesting story line. Living in Sublette County for the past 5 years, I found the generalities of the area and it's residents way off base. This is the first book I've read set in a time and place in which I have lived, so that may be altering my view a bit. "
— Erin, 2/6/2014" It was ok. I love the TV series, but the book seemed to be lacking something. "
— Jane, 2/1/2014" Tess Gerritsen just gets better and better. The curves and twists in this one leave you breathless and the ending leaves you at the edge of a brilliantly written cliff. "

— Terry, 5/12/2011" This physician turned writer is a good reliable read for those of us who enjoy grisly mysteries. It even has a surprise ending when you thought everything was all tied up. "
— Julie, 5/9/2011" Not her best, by far. Too many random events and characters without growth or purpose in the story. "
— Yvette, 5/9/2011" I thought this was the best thus far of the Rizzoli Isles series. If you want a quick whodunnit, this is for you. "
— Alicia, 5/8/2011" Another in the Isles-Rizzoti series. In this one, Isles ends up getting involved with a Jim Jones like cult in Wyoming while at a medical comference. Rizzoti must head west to help her friend. "
