"I’m not done yet but this book I will listen to multiple times. It is not a book just to enlighten the white race, it’s for everyone. However I feel it is my obligation as someone with the privilege of living as a human labeled as white to become more mindful of how the world has worked to perpetuate inequities. I Incredibly timely blend of personal and historical explanation of how racism is imbedded in our country. Definitions and examples give clarity to how to identify racist ideas and actions in your life and around you. No judgement just clear definitions differentiating various forms of racism such as behavioral and cultural. Author holds no punches and even acknowledges personal cultural racism. "

Quotes

  • “Kendi…punctures the myths of a post-racial America, examining what racism really is—and what we should do about it.”

    — Time
  • “An essential instruction manual.”

    — NPR
  • “With a delivery that is sometimes measured and deliberate, sometimes declaiming, author Kendi drives home his thesis…There’s an audible smile in his voice when Kendi recounts conversations with peers and mentors, and he’s open and confessional about his own ingrained racism and failures in antiracist thinking and action. This compelling and important book will challenge and benefit anyone who chooses to listen.”

" Kendi packs a necessary rhetorical punch in his self-narrated book and in the process helps the reader re-examine the use of language in understanding and combatting racism. Essentially it's about focussing on racist policies and de-emphasizes attacking racist individuals. Self-examination of one's own biases and their roots is essential in this process. The title is a bit mis-leading as the book is less a "how-to" than a powerful series of reflections of Kendi's own journey and then through that he shows us a way forward. You won't regret listening to this audiobook. "

" A fantastic book that should be read by everyone. Kendi does a fantastic job weaving his personal experiences into the greater fabric of racism over time. Kendi has a natural narrator voice which adds to the experience of this audiobook. "
