About the Authors

Zora Neale Hurston (1891–1960) was a novelist, folklorist, and anthropologist whose fictional and factual accounts of black heritage remain unparalleled. In addition to her most celebrated work, the 1937 novel Their Eyes Were Watching God, her books include Barracoon, a New York Times bestseller.

Ibram X. Kendi, the New York Times bestselling author of several books, was named by Time magazine in 2020 as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. His books include Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, which won the National Book Award for Nonfiction, and two #1 New York Times bestsellers, How to Be an Antiracist, which was also a Sunday Times bestseller, and Four Hundred Souls, coauthored with Keisha N. Blain. He is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities at Boston University and the founding director of the BU Center for Antiracist Research.
