Gerald is only three years old when his mama leaves him alone in the house while she visits her drug dealer. He finds the hot thing she uses to light her cigarettes and in no time, the house is ablaze. Mama is sent to prison, and Gerald goes to live with his Aunt Queen. When he turns nine, Gerald unhappily learns that his mama is being released from jail and wants her son back. Suddenly, he must switch from a loving home to a household dominated by his abusive stepfather. When Gerald learns a terrible secret about his stepfather and the half-sister he has grown to love, he'll have to find the courage to do what's right. Author Sharon M. "Forged By Fire was a great book I learned alot from this book. I know that you should never let any body put their hands on family. In the book Gerald the main character has been living with his aunt since he was a little baby because his mother was on drugs. Now as a teen Gerald's mother steps back into his life married with a daughter Gerald doesnt know what to say. The father of his sister is a molester and abuses his sister and being her brother he defends her. He takes some battle scars for defending her but in the end his step dad got what he deserved. He had to deal with the death of his friend and still carry on with his life. I didnt like the sad parts like when his aunt died the same day his mother arrived after years and the car crash that killed his friend who was headed to the nba. I made a connection with this story in my own live because I have younger siblings and I dont any man or women disrespecting or hurting them in anyway so I have a strong bond with them."

" This is a great book that could be used in a middle school classroom and a high school classroom. It includes many issues that todays youth may encounter. It includes death, family struggles, figuring out who you are, and more. It is about a boy named Gerald who is thrown into a household that included difficult situations. He is determined to find a way to make it. As an adult I was completely amazed with the plot and how easy it is to relate to Gerald. "

" I read Forged by Fire after having it recommended to me fron Le'Jayah, it was avery quick read and I really liked it. Forged by Fire is about a boy named Gerald who is sent to live with his aunt after being left in a burning apartment by his mother at the age of four. But on his ninth birthday his mom comes for a visit proposing that Gerald live with her and her new family, an abusing husband and very fragile daughter, Angel. On that same day Geralds aunt dies of a heart attack and he is forced to live with his mother. I really enjoyed Forged by Fire because it was kind of a coming of age story and was a book that kept me reading. In fact it is part of a series and so I also read Tears of a Tiger and am going to read Darkness Before Dawn another book in the series. "
