"Finally done! Long read but pretty good. The copy I had was 1358 pages! Honestly, the last hundred or so pages are the hardest to get through. Not because of graphic violence so much as too strong a focus on characters you're not emotionally involved with. However, the final chapter was pretty sweet."

“The is no doubting the wizardry of his craft…he is the honest-to-God creator of an exciting genre and a consistent producer of books that thunder, absorb, and entertain.”
— Los Angeles Times“Gripping…compelling entertainment…Clancy has lost none of his nerve.”
— Washington Post Book World“Clancy has evolved as a writer…Ryan emerges as a more rounded and complex character. Clandy’s strength is in his narrative drive, his ability to juggle convoluted plot elements without dropping any…He is a masterful, evan audacious, storyteller, willing to think the unthinkable and make it believable.”
— Cleveland Plain Dealer“A terrific storyteller with a fabulous cast of characters. His heroes are true heroes, but not perfect human beings. His villains are bad to the core. And his plots are so frighteningly real, you are fearful of picking up tomorrow’s newspaper.”
— San Francisco Examiner“Ryan’s fans will not be disappointed at their hero’s performance on the biggest and most dramatic stage of his career.”
— San Antonio Express-News“[Clancy] shines as a storyteller.”
— St. Louis Post-Dispatch“Clancy grabs the reader by the throat and won’t let go.”
— Houston Chronicle“One of the best books to come along lately…Moves fast with a lot of energy, keeping the reader spellbound.”
— Sunday Oklahoman“His plotting here is masterful, as is his strumming of patriotic heartstrings. This is heavyweight entertainment.”
— Publishers Weekly“Vintage Clancy…The conclusion feature the most harrowing battlefield prose Clancy has written since Red Storm Rising. I can’t think of a better way to while away the waning days of summer, reading this dandy yarn.”
— BookPage" I remember this being pretty slow til the 2nd half "
— Ian, 2/16/2014" This book is so old that it feels out of date. But, I'm re-reading it because I'm out of new books. Looking forward to trying some of his newer stuff! Love Tom Clancy!! : ) "
— Jackie, 2/10/2014" extremely prophetic, with whats happened with terrorism since the book was written in the 1990's. probably my fav Tom Clancy book. "
— Tony, 1/20/2014" My husband is a huge Tom Clancy fan, but this is the first Clancy book I have read. A huge, complex, suspenseful story -I wish Jack Ryan were running for President! "
— Ann, 1/17/2014" By far, Tom Clancy's best ever! "
— Julie, 1/9/2014" You'd think that eventually a former insurance salesman would stumble and write an only okay book. But not Tom Clancy. "
— Tim, 1/9/2014" Tom Clancy overload. Have read this book before. Still enjoyed the complexity and intrigues, but his political views started to annoy me. Too much. "
— Johan, 12/7/2013" I. Love. This. Book. I couldn't put the thing down! I'm a total conspiracy theorist, so it fits right in with me. I like that there isn't a ton of military jargon like in some of Clancy's others... makes for faster reading. "
— Amanda, 11/26/2013" The best Clancy novel ever. Three parallel plotlines. Three crises: one political, one military/foregin terrorism and one domestic terrorism. You won't be able to set this one down! "
— Don, 11/2/2013" Tom clancy is just an amazing writer. This book has so much action and it is a very thrilling book. There are many missions in this book and it involve alot of political terror. "
— Crystal, 11/1/2013" Needed to read the next book in the series. "
— carl, 7/19/2013" Only 800 pages plus, of heart pounding, mind blowing real life problems once again Mr. Clancy puts you in the middle of the sweat, tears and wondering if the right choice is being made always in light of what can be lost. What would/could you do if you were in Jack's shoes? "
— Mac, 11/17/2012" I'd like to think I would have finished this book but it's time to stop pretending....So I read the last page to see if Jack Ryan, once again, saved the world..... "
— Rebel, 8/26/2012" Kind of long, but still very good. Not many twists in the plot, but discusses some interesting views about government. "
— Robert, 7/31/2012" Interesting that Clancy wrote this pre-9/11. Don't read if you have a weak stomach, though. Any fan of Jack Ryan will like this one. I doubt it'll ever be made into a movie, too many sensitive issues in a post 9/11 world. "
— Spring, 6/22/2012" one of my close favorite "
— Jan, 2/16/2012" Fairly pedestrian rendition of this book, but I DO think a Tom Clancy novel does not lend itself to a dramatic presentation. Good story. When Clancy is on top of his game (like he is here), everything clicks right down to the page-turning conclusion. "
— Rob, 1/6/2012" Just what you expect from Clancy, well researched and well written. "
— Bucklyn, 12/18/2011" Just a good read. Mr. Clancy's ability to touch on the hot points in political tension is very acute. "
— Jared, 10/6/2011" I think this was the last of Clancy's excellent books. "
— Jagad5, 9/13/2011" Wow, what a tome! Dense, but quite enjoyable - nice political thriller without the sexual element. This Tom Clancy guy is quite the public policy guru - I was very impressed. "
— Amanda, 8/26/2011" Loved the ending! Hmmm.... look at today and how we are using our drones on the terrorists, makes you think. "
— Tom, 5/17/2011" I love all Tom Clancy's book but this is one of the best. :) "
— Anne, 5/11/2011" finished reading this for David who was in the middle of it when we died "
— Rita, 4/26/2011" Killing german Terrorists, what more can you ask for in a novel? "
— Datamaggot, 4/26/2011" One of my all-time favorite books! "
— Tj, 4/21/2011" I thought this book, since it featured Clark & Ding, would be among my fave's in the series. While not disappointed, it was OK, dragged a little, but the good guys won out in the end! "
— Jim, 3/26/2011" For me, it's a toss-up between this and "Without Remorse" for Tom Clancy's best. "
— Andy, 3/24/2011" Obviously written before environmentalism became popular "
— Scott, 3/17/2011" John Clark leads an anti-terror group based out of England. "
— Shaeley, 3/12/2011" Pretty good book but it tends to drag at times. Decent if you have nothing else you really want to read or you want to hang out and read by the pool, but I would not devote a lot of time to it. "
— James, 2/21/2011" I love Clancy's tales because they are full of technical details and full of suspense and this one provides all that and a more human touch to character development of the men from his previous books that are about the Rainbow team. A good read. "
— Marilyn, 2/1/2011" By this point, without the Cold War to provide inspiration, Clancy appeared to be wandering a bit. Still a good storyteller, but without the fervency of a true believer. "
— Ben, 1/29/2011" John Clark is a bad-ass. I love these books and the Rainbow Six. "
