"Forensic investigator Theresa MacLean is still mourning her fiance who was killed 8 months ago in a bank robbery. She plods on with her job but lacks any special spark of interest. When Jillian Perry is missing (later found dead) she can't help but see the similarities between their lives. Jill's new husband seems a little off to Theresa, and she widens her usual job to include investigation. She's sure the husband is a bad actor, but needs to collect proof to satisfy herself. To further complicate things Jillian's daughter (but not the daughter of the husband)has an inheritance coming her way. If the husband can adopt the daughter, is the daughter in peril? Enjoy!"

— Mel, 2/13/2014" Good mystery-better than expected. Not fresh but well done. "
— Gouldma, 2/10/2014" I just couldn't get into it. "
— S, 1/28/2014" This book was better than her first, but I thought the plot would have been way more involved than it was. "
— Kristy, 1/27/2014" This is the April pick for my book group. I really enjoyed especially because it was set in Cleveland, Ohio which is not far from me. It was a very fast read. You kind of knew who the killer was, but you just couldn't figure out how he did it. The ending was like something out of a television show; I don't know that she really could have pulled that off. This was the second in the series, so I may have to back track and read the first one. I recommend it for mystery lovers. "
— Judy, 1/25/2014" It was interesting, wish the killer was not identified as early as they are, but here are still surprises as the story unfolds. "
— Ruth, 1/19/2014" Another great story in the Tess MacLean series! I love the mystery! I also love the family dynamics! "
— Amy, 1/16/2014" Boring....didn't like the heroine. "
— Leigh, 1/15/2014" Well now, I just found an author I have yet to read... But then realized it was book 2 instead of 1... So I'm on the hunt for book 1 now... :) Loved this one though! Just loved it! "
— Julia, 1/13/2014" I only give four stars because it took awhile for the book to get started. Once it did it was great. "
— Melissa, 1/9/2014" Not as good as her first novel. Theresa is not a very likable heroine. She's a wannabe cop, disobey authority, breaks protocol on a daily basis, and is nasty to her love interest. It's very hard to root for a heroine that is so unlikable and unrealistic. "
