Publisher Description

"Robert Clinch loved his boat more that anything else in the world . more than his wife . his kids . his girlfiend . Even more than the largemouth bass he was pursuing." Thus begins a twisted tale of murder in the world of big-stakes bass fishing tournaments. Filled with exwives, evangelists, and an armed pit-bull, this is a story that could only be concocted by Carl Hiaasen, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, New York Times best-selling author, and czar of Florida noir fiction.

"I don't need to tell you that if you like Hiaasen's other work you'll like this one as well. A nice blend of absurdity, slapstick, danger, sex, and environmentalism. As always. And of course plenty of redneck charlatans and nitwits. What's not to like?"

— Dale (4 out of 5 stars)

Quotes

  • “Twists and turns with breathtaking speed…Climb aboard, bubba. Strap yourself in. You gonna like this ride.”

    — New York Times Book Review
  • “The cast of bizarre characters and the suspenseful events confirm Hiaasen’s reputation for creating singular villains and heroes. While he’s probably unpopular among some fellow citizens in his home state, he will certainly please readers who appreciate the Swiftian wit in his cautionary tales.”

    — Publishers Weekly
  • “You wouldn’t think someone would stoop to murder to win a bass fishing contest, but then few of us have the imagination of Carl Hiaasen. He creates characters and plots guaranteed to snare your interest and jiggle your funny bone. Then all you need is a George Wilson to inhabit these South Florida denizens and make the most of these unlikely situations, and you’re hooked.”

    — AudioFile
  • “Humor and suspense in equal doses.”

    — Booklist
  • “The action is swift, and there are some very funny scenes.”

    — Library Journal
  • “With its byzantine plot and wonderful, weird denizens, this is one of the most delightfully inventive and entertaining crime novels of the year.”

    — Kirkus Reviews (starred review)
