Buffy fans will go wild!

She was Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Now she’s the author of Ace’s hottest new series—killer novels featuring Calliope Reaper-Jones, who doesn’t want to be daddy’s little girl anymore …

Calliope Reaper-Jones so just wanted a normal life: buying designer shoes on sale, dating guys from Craig’s List, web-surfing for organic dim-sum for her boss …

But when her father—who happens to be Death himself—is kidnapped, and the Devil’s Protege embarks on a hostile takeover of the family business, Death, Inc., Callie returns home to assume the CEO mantle—only to discover she must complete three nearly impossible tasks in the realm of the afterlife first.

" Probably the worst book I've ever read. It's only redeeming quality is that Amber Benson wrote it. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Haizle The Princess Williams | 1/17/2014

" This was an okay book. I'm not sure if I particularly like the protagonist. She seems pretty dense to me. Not quite believeable in her role. I am going to read the next book in the series to see if it's and better. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Geri | 1/1/2014

" Callie is a character that anyone can emphasize with. (I mean doesn't everyone want to be normal? ) Callie's thoughts always kept me laughing out loud. She's whitty, whiny, sensitive and just trying to be a good person. Her misadventures in trying to save her family members was exciting to follow. It was a fun read that I couldn't put down. Amber Benson has done a great job on her debut series of her own! I can't wait for the next book to come out! "

" Was looking for Among The Ghosts and found this. Happy accident. Calliope Reaper-Jones, struggling New York assistant, would love to be a runway model. Romance would be nice as well. She is startled out of her peaceful life by a series of events that reveal she has been under a forgetting spell. She is actually the middle daughter of Death. She goes back home to find her father and older sister who are missing. In the meantime, the position of head reaper can't be empty. Calliope must prove she's worthy of filling the position and has to successfully perform 3 tasks or else her family's position and their immortality is at stake. Looking forward to reading Amber's follow-up, Cat's Claw. "

" A decent enough first read for the field, I blew through it in one afternoon. I liked it enough to check out the next book at least. "

" started listening to this audiobook and didn't like it from the start. too much effort was put into the humor that it felt way overdone. didn't even get past chapter 1. Maybe the book is better. You really have to like the audiobook reader or it will ruin a book. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Sandy | 10/1/2013

" This book was not very good. I did'nt like the writing very much. Not quite my style. "

" The characters and premise were fun, making the book a quick read. Some of the pop culture references and snark fell a little flat for me, but overall I really enjoyed it. Definitely a solid first solo effort from Amber! Looking forward to the rest of the series! "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Sarah | 5/26/2011

" This book would probably be a 2 1/2 stars. I didn't like it as much as I wanted to...I'm not sure if it had to do with the characters or the storyline.

I won't say that I'd never continue the series, but it definitely isn't anywhere near the top of my to-read list. "

  • 1 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 51 out of 5 Rae | 4/22/2011

" I didn't get more than halfway through. The characters didn't really grab me and the story was meandering all over. The premise was interesting, but the lead character was more annoying than likable. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Emily | 3/30/2011

" I would give this more of a 3.5. It's pretty light reading and I hated the main character at the beginning - very chick lit then. But, I did end up liking it more. It's just much "fluffier" than what I normally enjoy reading. "
