"This is Annie and Max's 21st book. I like this series of cozy mysteries because the clues are all there for the smart reader to figure out. Unfortunately, I can't figure them out. But the solution was clear and elegant when it arrived. The case concerns the purported death by suicide of a fired law firm receptionist, the shooting death of the head of the law firm, and the death of the yard boy. There are so many suspects. I also like the fact that Annie owns a mystery bookstore and drops in references to other mystery books and authors. I also like the lovely sea island setting for the stories."

" This was a great book and a good addition to the Death on Demand series. My only complaint would be that Billy, the island Sheriff, is consistently portrayed like a dismissive idiot. I can understand his unwillingness to take Max and Annie seriously in the first couple of books, but we're well into the series by now and there are only so many times he can be proven to be wrong before it just wears thin. But I still love this series and this one doesn't disappoint. "
— â‚, 2/18/2014" This was a quick read. The mystery was good, not 100% obvious who the killer was. I like that the main character owns a mystery book store and has lots of recommendations. "
— Julia, 2/12/2014" Very Good; Continuing character: Annie Laurance/Max Darling; when her new employee dies and its judged to be suicide, the book store owner works to prove it was really murder "
— Joe, 1/28/2014" very basic and prosaic. never read her before, probably won't again. if you've been with her from the beginning and like/know the characters then you will probably enjoy this one. "
— David, 1/23/2014" Loved this one!! One of my favorites of hers. Plot was well-developed and full of twists!!! "
— Debbie, 1/21/2014" a bit slow...but still, the last few chapters, couldn't put it down & it keeps you guessing! :) "
— Tracy, 1/17/2014" Great story!! As the murder unfolded, I knew the murderer-but as more info came forth, I was proved wrong. The story's main character's are becoming a bit.....much? unkempt? kinda-out there?? but the murder storyline is sharp as ever. "
— Laura, 12/18/2013" did not finish, just could not get into this one... "
— Mary, 11/25/2013" I've read some of the books in this series and would like to read them all! I'm so excited to read this one! I just love a good mystery and this really sounds like it is going to be a good one! Great author and great series! "
— Shannon, 9/29/2013" This was a great mystery with an interesting plot. I would have given it 4 stars, but the cat posters really were distracting and unnecessary. I mean, what was she thinking? You can't see them! And she describes and quotes about 15 of them in the book! "
— Chris, 9/21/2013" I love this book even though i read the newest book first it makes me want to read all now "
— Amanda, 8/1/2013" This was a pretty standard Death on Demand mystery. Maybe I wasn't in the mood for a cozy, but the plot didn't get exciting until the last few chapters. The killer was a nice twist though. "
— Shelby, 12/16/2012" I always like the Death on Demand books although now I tend to read them for author/title recommendatons. I am getting a little tired of the characters and the obligitory femme jep situation that Annie has to have. That said, I am sure I'll read the next one too. "
— Kelly, 12/10/2012" Fun, fluffy series. Quick read. I figured out the murderer early on but still enjoyed the read. "
— Joanne, 10/3/2012" I don't think that Carolyn Hart's writing style is a good reading style for me. I like a lot of dialog and a little less description. "
— Rachel, 9/20/2012" I really enjoyed this book as I do all the Death on Demand series--although they are somewhat alike. There are so many wealthy old families on Broward's Rock and they are always busy killing each other off, or offing themselves. "
— Joanna, 6/3/2012" nice easy read, I enjoyed it! "
— Artha, 4/27/2012" I was just going to skim it so I could return the book to the library - but it was too good. I had to read it cover to cover. I want my own Max:) Fun summer read. "
— Janna, 1/12/2012" I like Annie and Max, but this one didn't draw me in as much as some. "
— Ruth, 12/16/2011" Hart is getting better, I almost didn't figure it out! "
— Leah, 9/3/2011" I think I'm done with this series. How many murders can possibly take place on Broward's Rock? "
— Gina, 7/7/2011" Very Good; Continuing character: Annie Laurance/Max Darling; when her new employee dies and its judged to be suicide, the book store owner works to prove it was really murder<br/> "
— Joe, 6/23/2011" I listened to this while I was driving to Utah. It barely kept me awake! Not bad really, just predictable and slow. "
— Quenta, 6/22/2011" I love the Death on Demand series and this was another good one. My only question is how does Annie run her book shop when she's always out solving murders?! Fun read. "
— Carol, 6/14/2011" This was a quick read. The mystery was good, not 100% obvious who the killer was. I like that the main character owns a mystery book store and has lots of recommendations. "
— Julia, 6/12/2011" I really enjoyed this book as I do all the Death on Demand series--although they are somewhat alike. There are so many wealthy old families on Broward's Rock and they are always busy killing each other off, or offing themselves. "
— Joanna, 5/27/2011" Great story!! As the murder unfolded, I knew the murderer-but as more info came forth, I was proved wrong. The story's main character's are becoming a bit.....much? unkempt? kinda-out there?? but the murder storyline is sharp as ever. "
— Laura, 5/13/2011" It was okay. I don't think these books are really doing it for me any more. It might be time to quit this series for a while. "
— Kristin, 5/6/2011" Another exciting Death on Demand book. Max and Annie really outdo themselves - planting evidence and putting Annie in jeopardy. Nice read.... "
— Nancy, 4/24/2011" This was a great mystery with an interesting plot. I would have given it 4 stars, but the cat posters really were distracting and unnecessary. I mean, what was she thinking? You can't see them! And she describes and quotes about 15 of them in the book! "
— Chris, 4/18/2011" Always a treat to spend time with Max and Annie darling. And I always end up my read with a list of new books (and some old) to look for and read next courtesy of Death on Demand...Annie's Mystery Bookstore! "
