"This was my first Nicci French book. I loved it. It is about a woman with a bi-polar disorder that basically has a secret life. She spirals out of control and could lose her marriage and her business. I couldn't put it down."

" I wasted hours of my life reading this book. I feel as though the author could have thickened out the story a bit. It was my first Nicci French read and I wish I could get those hours back! Horrible I tell you! It was all plot after plot no resolution or too quick a resolution. If this was French's debut I would be more understanding but apparently it's the fourth book or something so there really is no excuse for such pathetic writing. I'm sorry to be so harsh but I really hated it. "
— Jayn, 2/18/2014" I thought it was a mystery, but it was a story about a manic-depressive and what happened to the lives she touched. Her behavior, before treatment, was appalling. Easy to see why her husband was tired of her. "
— Pbwritr, 2/11/2014" Book club selection. It's not that it wasn't good, but it just wasn't my thing. Holly is one of those massively energetic life & soul of the party kind of people and appears to be burning the candle at both ends. She has a company with her best friend Meg, who's far more sensible and down to earth and ends up being the one who sorts the mess. Initially, I found Holly a very unappealing character. By the end, after a suicide attempt or two, she's come round a bit, but I found her hard to understand - probably as I'm more a Meg than a Holly. Turns into a strange mixture with psycological elements and some mystery solving. Not badly written, but just not something i would choose to read. "
— Helen, 1/27/2014" Dreadful. Review to follow. "
— Boof, 1/21/2014" This book is about Holly Kraus who seems to live her life on the edge. But I felt the descriptions of what is going on with her mentally, emotionally and physically to be lacking. Although it made me feel frantic like Holly is suppose to feel because it never let me get to involved and then moved on to the next scene. I have felt all the books I have read by the author have left me feeling like I am missing huge chunks of the story and characters. "
— Darby, 1/17/2014" An interesting book. The slow, modulated march of its writing is extremely well done, pulling the reader along and building reluctance to put it down to attend to real life. Such mastery makes the thin plot and surprise ending a tad disappointing. "
— Kendall, 1/14/2014" This book was not my cup of tea.I have previously read Nicci French's novels and enjoyed them but I just didn't enjoy this one much at all. "
— Meagan, 1/13/2014" A little anti-climatic and the ending/villian was obvious ! However, the idea was quite different ! "
— Fareeha, 11/4/2013" I liked it great read. "
— Patty, 10/31/2013" Extremely readable view of life from the perspective of someone with mental illness. "
— Margaret, 10/30/2013" Good grasp of bipolar disorder, as well as an interesting suspense novel. "
