Callander Square is the second of Anne Perry's Charlotte and Thomas Pitt mysteries. Full of well-drawn and convincing characters, Callander Square offers a finely crafted recreation of Victorian England. The bodies of two newborn babies have been found in a park in the fashionable London neighborhood of Callander Square. While Inspector Thomas Pitt is fighting to get the square's aristocratic residents to speak with him, his pretty, well-born wife Charlotte decides to do some detective work of her own. Listener Opinions

" I didn't care for this one as much as her first. Too many characters with little development of many of the characters. After a while the relationships between them became confusing. It became a chore finishing the book. I didn't find it to be an especially satisfying story. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Ruth Hastings | 2/17/2014

" Not as good as the first one, but an easy read. Too many suspects to follow - I was confused as to who was who. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Natalie | 2/11/2014

" I loved returning to Charlotte and Pitt at the beginning of their marriage...there were other characters from other novels that I enjoyed meeting again. "

" I read many of the Charlotte and Thomas Pitt books in my pre-foodreads days, and found them to be quite a nice diversion/mystery. While I didn't find them as compelling as the later Monk series, I still did like them, especially for the glimpse below stairs that is often given in the stories. I'll probably get back to the series again some day, or listen on audio book. "

" Second Thomas and Charlotte Pitt novel. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Arlene Allen | 12/29/2013

" I don't have that edition (great cover) but this is the book with which I Discover Anne Perry. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Emily | 12/29/2013

" This reminded me a bit of an agatha christie novel, but more complex. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Robyn | 12/28/2013

" I find all the Pitt books formulaic but it's great escapist lit for me "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Ti-Leigh Telford | 12/27/2013

" Again very nice. I was surprised though. Perry spends a lot of time with secondary characters. I think they had more "book" time than Thomas or Charlotte. It made it quite fascinating. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Sarah | 12/3/2013

" loved it!!!! this it rates pretty close to Agatha Christie! I am going to read more of these when I feel like another mystery "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Becca | 11/29/2013

" I enjoyed the ending but the beginning and middle were a bit difficult to plod through. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kathy Petersen | 11/29/2013

" Hardly a disappointment, the second in the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series doesn't have quite the enthrallment of the first, and it's a bit of a stretch to get the upper class Charlotte, now Mrs. Pitt, into the action. Not so impossible a stretch to throw over the series, and I plan to enjoy more. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Kirsten | 11/5/2013

" I enjoyed listening to this story (also the narrator is my favorite book on tape reader!) I didn't even guess who what & when until right before it all went down, I love that it keeps my mind working! "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Kate | 10/3/2013

" Again - I don't think Ann Perry other than writing nicely about Victorian England does much for the serious mystery gendre. She's no Elizabeth George (my personal favorite). "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Kelly Bumgarner | 5/4/2013

" Not as fun as Cater Street Hangman, but definitely an enjoyable read. Less predictable ending than first book in the series; can't decide if that's a good thing? "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Jana | 5/2/2013

" I read this when i was younger so it didn't really hit home. I don't think it helped that I hadn't read the first book int he series either. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Jana Chase | 11/20/2012

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Tracy | 7/30/2012

" Better, 'though was it too much to as to see Charlotte face down her father when she told him she was going to marry that awful policeman?! "

" Another 'good enough' crime novel by Anne Perry. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Cary | 4/17/2012

" As I started into this one I found that I was not as drawn to it as the first one but somehow I was still in it and found that it picked up the further I got into it! I liked the mystery and still cared about the characters so I will keep reading! "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Katie | 1/2/2012

" This one annoys me ... I don't like it when mysteries unravel around information that is only brought into the plot at the point when things are explained. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Cheryl Prentiss | 11/24/2011

" This is the second book in the series with charlotte and detective pitt. Another enjoyable mystery that leaves you guessing who the culprit is until the last page. "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Mimi | 11/12/2011

" Really love Anne Perry and writings about this time in history. Makes me glad to be in our time sometimes, but some things were simpler back then. Seeing Charlotte and Thomas get to know each other thru some pretty devastating stuff is so compelling. Ready to read more. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Elissa | 11/11/2011

" As always, Pitt gets his man! With the help of his lovely wife Charlotte that is. I am such a fan of the genre and the era in which this series is set in. I highly recommend this novel to any age or level of reader. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Ally Blake | 10/6/2011

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Carla | 5/30/2011

" I didn't enjoy this as much as the first book, but still a good mystery. The Pitts are a very interesting couple. I listened to this one, I find hearing classic British mysteries read in a British accent enhances the experience. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Diane | 5/20/2011

" 2nd in a series of great victorian murder mysteries. these books give such a clear,if sometimes frightening, picture of the times. i, for one, would not like to live in the past, but i really like to read about it "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Nicole | 5/7/2011

" My comments on the first book in the series still stand. I wish we saw more interaction between Pitt and Charlotte, and that the reader received more of the information Pitt processes in his investigations. "
