Publisher Description

In a universe where corruption and deception rule all aspects of life, sparks of rebellion threaten to ignite in this story of dark secrets and irresistible chemistry.

Born of Silence

As the Resistance leader, Zarya Starska's only goal is to topple the government that destroyed her entire family and left her penniless. Her biggest asset is a mysterious man known only as Kere.

But Kere has a dark secret. Born into a world that is as privileged as it is corrupt, his real name is Darling Cruel—and he is heir to the government Zarya wants to overthrow. No one has ever seen the real man behind the legend. No one except Zarya. But when she allows a weapon he designed to be used against his beloved sister, all bets are off.

Betrayed by the Resistance, Darling's goal is not only to reign, but to kill every Resistance member he can find. Zarya must stop Darling's reign of terror, but can she reach past his insanity to restore the hero who once fought by her side?

"THIS BOOK WAS SO DAMN AMAZING!!! Darling Cruel's story is soo sad!!! :( his father dies and his uncle, Arturo made his life hell for like over a decade!! and ever since he told that lie about being gay to protect his mother people have treated him so cruelly - those sickening jokes and mocking him - it was so heartless and mean :( and then Zarya - she knew him as Kere and they were in love and he asked her to marry him - and then when he tried to get his sister to escape the palace, he was captured by Zarya's own men - his plan went to terribly wrong and Lise - Annalise - his sweet little sister almost died!! and then Darling was tortured for 5 friggin' months - and all that time, Zarya was searching for him when he was right in their own Resistance torture chamber :( and when she finally realized wht had happened it too late and Darling's friends in the Sentella came to rescue him - his torture was so horrific - he was scarred so badly :( and then a year passed and Maris - OMG I LOVE MARIS - HE'S SOOOOO SWEET!!! AND HE'S IN LOVE WITH DARLING - BUT DARLING IS STRAIGHT AND HE'S ACTUALLY GAY - his best friend ever, brings Zarya back to him since he's on this murderous killing rampage after killing his uncle - that bastard deserved it - and killing everyone who ever wronged him - it was justified but his Caronese people thought he was an even worse ruler than his uncle - total Bs but they didn't know the truth - and still when things got really bad and his people - idiotically - went to the League to help - they still mocked him and made fun of his being raped as a kid and screwed over by so many people - but in the end, when he thought Zarya died he went to get her body from the League prison, intending to die there as well - but she was alive!! :D obviously :) and they got outta there alive with the help of his friends, Syn, Nykyrian, Caillen, Hauk and everyone - and even thought Darling was fucked over so many times in his life, he was still a good person - and he finally did marry Zarya at the end - even though she threw up at her wedding :$ And mAris finally found someone to love him - Ture, Zarya's friend who was imprisoned with her!!! they're so cute! :D and Darling's people finally saw the good in him and accepted him as their Emporer - and he fixed things with his brother Drake, and the older one, Ryn :) and maybe his mother too at the end - where she gave Zarya the ring thing to give him at the wedding!!! I LOVE THE LEAGUE SERIES!!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR #6, BORN OF FURY AND DARLING AND ZARYA FINALLY GOT THEIR HAPPY ENDING!!! AND SHE WAS PREGNANT TOO!!! AND THEY WERE BETROTHED AS CHILDREN AS WELL!! <3 ironic how his last name is 'Cruel' when he's anything but - he's such a good person on the inside :)"

  • “Kenyon’s latest League novel is an amazing, mesmerizing story…The dynamic between the hero and heroine is tangled to the extreme, and Kenyon makes you care deeply for their predicament. Outstanding!”

" Tragically awesome is how i would sum this up in two words. There were definite times where i was in tears just from what had been done to him, but loved it!!! Now i have to re-read all of them again:) "

" Not since Archeron has there been a character who has suffered more than Darling. He'd been beaten, lied on, raped, put in a mental institute, hated by his family, his mother would rather spit on him than anything, been called homosexual ... the list goes one and on. It is one thing to have a character suffer and survive a few hard knocks but this goes way beyond that. Yes, the book had moments that sped by but the nagging over wounds Darling suffered and the fact that he wanted it all kept secret (all those past embarressments he endured), got old fast. I enjoyed the Hunter series so maybe, some time in the future, I will try another of these books but for now, I've had quite enough tortured characters to last a long time. "

" 6 hours later! I couldn't put it down and had to stay up til 5am to finish. It was definitely a sad book and one that dealt with serious subject matter, which I didn't think I would like, but it was handled very well. Perfect blend of romance and story as well as bringing back old characters from the previous books. Kenyon set it up really well for another book and I'm excited to read it too! "

" A good edition to the series, to begin with I was a bit disappointed as I thought we'd finally got an author who was willing to present a strong gay male lead character. However, aside from my initial disappointment the story itself had a very good plot. "
