The evidence is irrefutable: in forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, New York Times bestselling author Kathy Reichs has created a detective fiction heroine who is brilliant to the bone. In the acclaimed author’s thrilling new novel, Brennan is at the top of her game in a battle of wits against the most monstrous adversary she has ever encountered.

Unexpectedly called in to the Charlotte PD’s Cold Case Unit, Dr. Temperance Brennan wonders why she’s been asked to meet with a homicide cop who’s a long way from his own jurisdiction. The shocking answer: two child murders, separated by thousands of miles, have one thing in common—the killer. Years ago, Anique Pomerleau kidnapped and murdered a string of girls in Canada, then narrowly eluded capture. It was a devastating defeat for her pursuers, Brennan and police detective Andrew Ryan. Now, as if summoned from their nightmares, Pomerleau has resurfaced in the United States, linked to victims in Vermont and North Carolina. When another child is snatched, the reign of terror promises to continue—unless Brennan can rise to the challenge and make good on her second chance to stop a psychopath.

But Brennan will have to draw her bitter ex-partner out of exile, keep the local police and feds from one another’s throats, and face more than just her own demons as she stalks the deadliest of predators into the darkest depths of madness.

In Bones Never Lie, Kathy Reichs never fails to satisfy readers looking for psychological suspense that’s more than skin-deep.

Quotes & Awards

  • “A cold case gone suddenly hot is the foundation of megastar Reichs’ new Temperance Brennan thriller. For both Tempe and Det. Andrew Ryan, the case of Anique Pomerleau burns as ‘the one who got away.’ In addition to the puzzling mystery, Reichs also delves into the devastation the loss of a child can wreak. Reichs is at the top of her game!”

    RT Book Reviews (starred review)

  • “Exciting…Temperance Brennan…attends a meeting at the Law Enforcement Center in Charlotte, NC, at which Vermont detective Umparo Rodas presents DNA evidence linking the unsolved murder of an eleven-year-old Charlotte girl to Canadian serial killer Anique Pomerleau, who managed to elude Brennan and her superior, lead detective Andrew Ryan, in 2004’s Monday Mourning…Tie-ins with other old cases, signs that the killer is targeting Brennan’s own neighborhood, and Brennan’s skill at interpreting confusing, potentially misleading forensic evidence build the suspense. Brennan’s strained relations with Ryan, the antics of crass detective Erskine ‘Skinny’ Slidell, and the uncanny aid provided by Brennan’s mother, Daisy, provide grist for series fans when Brennan finally unmasks a surprising killer.”

    Publishers Weekly

  • “A fine entry in a long-running series.”

    Booklist

  • “Nobody does forensics thrillers like Kathy Reichs. She’s the real deal.”

David Baldacci, praise for the author

  • “With a moderate pace and conversational tone, Katherine Borowitz narrates this reprise of the Temperance Brennan series of psychological thrillers…Borowitz recounts Tempe’s investigation in a natural, introspective tone, revealing her reluctance to reenter the horrifying world of twisted killer Anique Pomerleau. While Borowitz doesn’t attempt vocal changes for many of the characters, she does provide a fragile but masculine tone for Tempe’s former lover, Andrew Ryan, who is still devastated over the loss of his daughter.”

About the Author
Author Kathy ReichsKathy Reichs is the author of more than twenty New York Times bestselling novels featuring forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, including her most recent The Bone Collection. A professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, she is a former vice president of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences and serves on the National Police Services Advisory Council in Canada. Reichs’s own life, as much as her novels, is the basis for the TV show Bones, one of the longest-running series in the history of the FOX network.
