Publisher Description

A church mouse is no ordinary mouse, and Hildegarde—the Mouse Mistress of Saint Bartholemew’s—is no ordinary mouse leader. It falls to her to keep all the church mice safe and out of sight. But when a few parishioners report mouse sightings, Hildegarde and the rest of the church mice must face a most dreadful consequence: the Great X. To complicate things, a ceremony called the Blessing of the Animals is fast approaching. Saint Bartholemew’s will soon be filled with pets . . . including cats! Oh, dear. Within the stately stone walls of the church, life is not as serene or safe as one might think. It will take the courage and patience of a—well, of a saint—to keep this scampering, squeaking tribe of Hildegarde’s intact.

"good story. Hildegarde is Mouse Mistress and has the job of keeping the mice in the church safe. This requires cooperation on the part of the mice and some yelling at mice to stop reproducing! Lucretia thinks she would be a better Mouse Mistress and tries to undermine Hildegarde. When the Great X (exterminator) comes the mice need to be brave; they cleverly thwart the Great X, and Lucretia gets her comeuppance."

" The language of this book doesn't really match the story to me. The vocabulary is middle grade or higher while the story seems geared more towards the primary crowd. It strikes me as kind of the opposite of a high interest low vocab book. It took me about half the book to get into the story, but in the end, the story is quite charming. "

" The language of this book, while appropriate to the story, would make this a better read aloud for younger students. I tend to not be a big fan of talking mice or well any animals - but this is a sweet story and many children tend to like animal stories. "

" Very cute book about a group of church mice, who have to leave their homes because of the Great X. Hildegardeis the mouse mistress, and has to come up with how to get her clan of two hundred something mice out of the church for 2 days, and back before the feast of the animals. "

" Bless This Mouse is a sweet, inspirational story about mice living in a church when they are faced with danger, jealousy and temptation. There are wonderful lessons for the young reader that are not too in your face, but told in a way the reader sees beauty in friendship, courage and leadership. "

" Very sweet and old-fashioned story of a group of church mice trying to go undetected in their church home. Tensions are running high as the Blessing of the Animals ceremony approaches because, if there's rain, it's held inside the church--oh no cats!!! "
