"Wow is about all I can say right now. And even though I am not a history buff, and at times had trouble following the politics of the story, none of that diminished Mary Jo Putney's ability to write out the most amazing romance - one of the best I have ever read. Being a writer, I have no idea how she achieved the subtle flow from passion to conflict and back again so flawlessly that never did I doubt an impulse, a thought, and action of the hero or heroine. Wow! Again, right now that is all I can say. Wait, read it!"

— School Library Journal“A marvelous, fast-paced tale…Mesmerizing in its emotional breadth, stunning in its backdrop, and spellbinding in its paranormal overtones, this is a marvelous, fast-paced tale brimming with fictional and historical characters. Putney sets a new standard for a historical with paranormal overtones.”
— RT Book Reviews (4½ stars, Top Pick!)" Good for a romance. I wonder if the next one will be about Jean. "
— Jennifer, 2/5/2014" I liked how the heroine in this one stays true to her principles, but not in an overly melodramatic fashion, despite this being a romance, fantasy and historical novel. "
— Marianne, 2/2/2014" Ms. Putney creates a good story which is always a joy to read. Her stories having HEA and this one is no different. She mixes it with the hot Scottish Laird in this story. Hmmm. "
— ♆, 1/18/2014" Wow, great to see how magic may have played a part in one of the Scottish uprisings. "
— Margaret, 1/16/2014" This series is like the "Magic Treehouse" books but for adults. Historical fiction with a touch of magic. "
— Sherae, 1/16/2014" Don't read romances that often. This one was historical and Scottish. Listened to Playaway edition so okay for background to gardening. "
— Karen, 1/12/2014" Fun book looking forward to the others in this series "
— Val, 12/6/2013" Who doesn't love a Scotland setting for a book with old magic sturring up consequences. I cannot wait to read the next one. "
— Katie, 11/21/2013" Hot, steamy, romantic & adventurous "
— Elise, 11/20/2013" Loved this book. Meant wait to continue the series. A series for anyone who, loves romance, adventure and magic. "
— Sally, 10/30/2013" Reviewed as an AudioBook. I think that has to do more with the fact that it is VERY like Outlander (which is one of my favorite books of all time), but instead of time travel it is magical. Comparing it to that standard... it just could not hold my intrest. "
— Audrey02, 10/16/2013" 3.5 Nice plot and storyline. A little bit dragging and I found I skipped some of the pages. I think I will read it again though.. "
— Russell, 9/13/2013" Another one that goes in the did not finish pile. I've enjoyed the books I've read by Mary Jo Putney before, but this time around I didn't like the hero or the heroine. I gave up 100 pages in. There was just no chemistry between the two main characters-and the plot had such potential. "
— Colette, 2/22/2013" Checked it out of the library, and I'm glad I did. Hated it more than any other MJ title, even the "Silk" series. Readable enough to finish, hence two stars. "
— Chris, 2/11/2013" This story reminded me of Amanda Quick's Arcane Society series, but the way this story was written made the whole world more intriguing. "
