Someone was looking at me, a disturbing sensation if you’re dead. Though I could not feel paper between my fingers, smell ink, or taste the tip of a pencil, I could see and hear the world with all the clarity of the Living. They, on the other hand, did not see me as a shadow or a floating vapor. To the Quick, I was empty air. Or so I thought. In the class of the high school English teacher she has been haunting, Helen feels them: For the first time in 130 years, human eyes are looking at her. They belong to a boy, a boy who has not seemed remarkable until now. And Helen–terrified, but intrigued–is drawn to him. The fact that he is in a body and she is not presents this unlikely couple with their first challenge. But as the lovers struggle to find a way to be together, they begin to discover the secrets of their former lives and of the young people they come to possess.

"This is a great Fall book. It is about ghosts, so it is a great read this time of year. The language and pace float like the ghosts themselves. It is a really neat take on ghosts. It isn't dark in any ugly way. I really enjoyed reading it."
— Myshell (4 out of 5 stars)
“Mesmerizing.”
— Publishers Weekly“This will be irresistible to teens.”
— Booklist" I thought if James and Helen weren't light and would have been normal teenagers, the story was cliche. BUT the latter part was quite moving. It just proves love, destiny and faith in god has no bounds. a nice read all in all. "
— Arvie, 2/20/2014" Interesting premise but story had some big holes. Seemed like the main purpose of the entire book was the sex. Ugh. "
— Lee, 2/18/2014" I hated this book. The plot sounds promising perhaps if a different author wrote it it might have been actually good. "
— Erica, 2/5/2014" I thought this book had a very interesting, desperate, dynamic storyline....even though I don't remember the beginning because the copy I'd obtained was missing the first sixteen pages to the story..... :( "
— Kenzie, 1/28/2014" This book was absolutely beautiful. I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. "
— Shawna, 1/10/2014" this book was one of the most unique books i have ever read, it definately wasnt what i was expected but i really really enjoyed it. i wish the book was longer just because when i finished it i didnt want it to end. "
— Lauren, 12/1/2013" Jolie romance mais qui ne pas transcender "
— Siham, 9/12/2013" Intriguing premise, but it takes awhile to get going, and it didn't feel cohesive, somehow - not sure why. "
— Didi, 8/16/2013" This was an interesting story, didn't exactly turn out the way I thought but not in a disappointing way. I enjoyed it but did not find it to be an incredible book. "
— April, 6/9/2013" This audiobook was very beautifully haunting, literally. "
— Amber, 12/27/2012" Definitely not YA. It was kinda weird but I read it straight through without stopping so I guess I liked it "
— Carolyn, 4/29/2012" Don't give fives to very many books. This one was perfect. "
— Dan, 12/28/2011" An interesting take on the in between of life after life. "
— Mackenzie, 7/24/2011" I cried so much but it truly gives you a glimpse of a non corporeal way to live... (shudder) "
— Rhave, 5/9/2011" This was an interesting story, didn't exactly turn out the way I thought but not in a disappointing way. I enjoyed it but did not find it to be an incredible book. "
— April, 5/4/2011" I'm a sucker for a sweet story. This was a perfect Sunday read. "
— Meredith, 5/1/2011" There were some parts of this book that was good and some that kind of let the side down. It was an interesting read. I like the idea of it. "
— Michelle, 4/22/2011" This book was OK. More of a female's book, plus the ending was very rushed. Romance was ridiculous, sex scenes abundant. A lot of things about the spirit world (towards the end) are vague. "
— FuriedFinesse, 4/19/2011" It wasn't amazing, and not nearly the best I've ever read, but I did like the way it was written, and I truly loved the heroine. "
— Charlotte, 4/9/2011" A really really good ghost story that will appeal to the young and the old, the living and the departed. Being a ghost doesn't sound that bad. "
— Jamie, 4/8/2011" I guess I'd have to explain my one-star rating... <br/>This book was just so muddled and weird, I stopped after about 60 pages. I really just checked it out because I thought the covergirl had pretty hair (yeah, I know, a bad reason to pick a book haha), not because I liked the description. "
