Born in Iran, her parents were a business professor and an author, respectively. Her grandfather was famed film producer Max Rosenberg. Though Clare is Jewish, she does not consider herself or her family religious. She has worked at numerous entertainment magazines and tabloids and began writing fan fiction of the Harry Potter series and The Lord of the Rings. Clare lives in Massachusetts with her husband and three cats.
