Quotes & Awards

  • “This futuristic twist on Cinderella retains just enough of the original that readers will enjoy spotting the subtle similarities. But debut author Meyer’s brilliance is in sending the story into an entirely new, utterly thrilling dimension…[Cinder] unfolds with the magic of a fairy tale and the breakneck excitement of dystopian fiction. Meyer’s far-future Earth is richly imagined, full of prejudice and intrigue, characters easy to get invested in, and hints of what might await in future books.”

    Publishers Weekly (starred review)

  • “Rebecca Soler's sweet but firm voice conducts the listener through a fresh, quirky take on an old trope: reimagined fairytales…Overall, this is good fun, and provides encouragement for the next adventure. Locus

  • Narrator Rebecca Soler captures the determination and independence that make Cinder a compelling character…the story will keep listeners engaged and awaiting the subsequent titles. School Library Journal
  • The audiobook is delightful. Rebecca Soler brings all the characters to life with such distinct voices that it's like listening to a play. I was riveted. And here's the best part – the book is absolutely suitable for all ages. Record-Courier
  • Soler's narrations, both confident and well paced, flow effortlessly. She masters major characters' voices…Soler is also very effective at quick transitions between accents in dialogue-heavy scenes. The combination of Soler's superb performance and Meyer's captivating storytelling creates a pair of tour-de-force audiobooks. Horn Book Magazine
  • This was actually the first audiobook I ever listed to on my phone and I fell in love with the portability as well as Rebecca Soler's amazing narration…Rebecca reads Cinder perfectly. USA Today Happily Ever After Blog

  • “Marissa Meyer rocks the fractured fairy tale genre with a sci-fi twist on Cinderella.”

    Seattle Times

  • “This series opener and debut offers a high coolness factor by rewriting Cinderella as a kickass mechanic in a plague-ridden future… Readers will return for the next installment in this sharp, futuristic ‘Cinderella’ tale.”

    Kirkus Reviews

  • “The book will appeal to fans of twisted fairy tales, techno-thrillers, romance novels, and well-plotted suspense. Although the happy ending beckons, the story does not end with the final pages, a welcome promise that Cinder will return with more unimagined chapters in a story as old as time.”

" I will admit that I almost didn't make it through the beginning of this book - I got stick somewhere around page 40 but I am definitely glad I persevered! I let myself forget the fairy tale aspect if the book for most of it and focused on the real story. I wish I had a bit more resolution at the end or a peak into the next character in the series but alas I will have to acquire the next book. "

At first I was afraid it was going to be another some-what poorly written Cinderella book, but it far exceeded my fears and I enjoyed it very much. "

" An interesting and engrossing take on Cinderella, if she had been a cyborg living in a post WWIV world. However, at about 50 pages in I figured out what the big twist at the end was going to be, so getting there 300 pages later was a bit anticlimactic. "
