Publisher Description

Trouble is brewing in quiet, pleasant Alypium, and only Erec Rex can make it better. All of the baby dragons have mysteriously disappeared, and King Piter has lost the trust of his people. Worse, the evil Stain brothers will become the new rulers of the Kingdom of the Keepers unless Erec returns to Alypium and challenge them. But if Erec becomes king, the power of the royal scepter could destroy him completely.

As Erec performs the deadly quests to become king, he discovers that the right path brings many risks and few rewards-and when he must delve into the substance that holds our world together, he must summon all of his strength just to survive.

"Still liking the series. Still reminds me of Harry Potter (orphan boy, insane villian using magic to control too much, best friends with a girl, raised outside the magic community, antagonists his own age, not sure who to trust, benevolent super magician father figure)"

Quotes

  • “Narrator Simon Jones serves up a voice feast fit for any palate. In fact, his reading is the ingredient that makes this elixir bubble. His cast of characters rivals Jim Dale's Potter world. With tone and accent, Jones makes the gnomes cute, the hydras sweet, and the sometimes-petulant boy hero likable.”

    — AudioFile
  • “This strong sequel will delight fans of the first book. Kingsley is imaginative, creating a fascinating world that has new and interesting magic around every corner. The children learn about power, friendship, and prejudice as their adventures test their character as well as their courage…The book is a worthy addition to any fantasy collection, however, because the unique magic and compelling characters and creatures involved allow the series to stand on its own.”

    — VOYA
  • “The story is a worthy addition to the fantasy genre; the hero is compelling and the quests require bravery, intelligence and agility from Erec and his friends. The characters elicit strong responses from the readers: kinship for Erec as he struggles to adapt to a new world, admiration for Bethany’s intelligence and loyalty, disgust at Baskania’s body bulging with stolen eyes. Young readers will be intrigued by a world filled with magic, friendship and thought-provoking adventures.”

    — Children’s Literature
  • “Buoyed up by unusually clever details…along with a notably quirky supporting cast and plenty of heroic behavior.”

" Will this be made to a movie? I'm curious to how Eric looks. I keep imaginig Harry (Potter) as him with some tweaks. :) "

" This one was better than the first. More puzzles to the story and more action. I'm starting to think with each epilogue at the end of each book, we get a part of what happened to Erec "10 Years Earlier". Great book. Can't wait until the 3rd one comes out. "

" This was fun to read, but frustrating at times. I look for the story to advance a bit quicker...some of the story lines don't seem to go anywhere or there isn't any real good explanations being made about what's happening and why. Erec seems to want things to move along a bit more quickly and so do I. "

" This book was remarkably better than The Dragon's Eye, mostly just because the story was more original. I also thought that Ms. Kingsley's writing had improved immensely and the characters were a little more developed. Hopefully the next books will be even better. "

" I didn't like this book nearly as much as the first Erec Rex book. It was slow. The plot was boring. I hope the third book has more excitement. I am not ready to give up on Erec Rex's life. =) "
