"This was the first Stephen King novel I was allowed to read. My mom was a huge follower, and let me read this one when I was about 12. Changed my world. I will be reading this with my own children soon. I have to say that this is my favorite book...of all time...EVER."

“Simon Jones elevates this production…to supreme storytelling…He switches easily from the deep rumble of a threatening minotaur to the high, wispy voice of a frail king, keeping the listener interested in his narration.”
— AudioFile“A solid addition to the juvenile fantasy collection…The story becomes more complex and compelling as trust is questioned, friendships forged, and magical abilities are discovered. The story touches on issues of social justice, politics, and sportsmanship, and would be useful in a social studies class. Young readers will enjoy this story and eagerly anticipate the next book in the series.”
— Children’s Literature“Kingsley speeds her tale along to a climax involving an impulsive dragon who gives Erec a two-sided eye to replace his more ordinary glass one…This light but not insubstantial outing definitely belongs aboard the Potter wagon, but merits a seat toward the front.”
— Kirkus Reviews“This is an action-packed fantasy filled with rich characters kids will really relate to. Erec Rex is poised to take over Harry Potter’s long reign.”
— Maria Schneider, senior editor, Writer’s Digest" One of my very favs by him "
— Drkanglmyst, 2/12/2014" This book is a "Once upon a time book." What I mean by that is it is a "young adult" piece of fiction. On that level it doesn't try to be more than that it and is OK and not much else. Since it not on a par with what King is capable of doing three stars is all it's worth since it doesn't have anything exceptional in it. I'll probably forget it in a year so that's about the best I can think of it. If I don't maybe I'll come back and push it up a star it I can remember it beyond just the title. "
— Phillip, 2/12/2014" I had to read this for an English class back in the 9th grade. I always had a hard time with class reading as I always needed to do/read things in my own time. I had a very hard time with scheduled readings, etc. It also doesn't help that I'm a slow reader with learning differences/dyslexia. That said, the story is a good story. However, to give this an honest review, I would have to reread it as it was almost 15yrs ago! "
— Kerrilynn, 2/10/2014" ...I could not put this one down...Quick start and definitely holds you captivated till the end! "
— Dar, 2/9/2014" My favourite Stephen King book! "
— Sharon, 2/7/2014" A good, clever story that has a crossover to THE DARK TOWER series! "
— Harold, 2/2/2014" It was good although there were some unnecessary not so kid friendly parts. The ending was predictable and not his greatest work but other then that it had a strong climax and good human characters. "
— Anika, 1/20/2014" good quick read not much dragon stuff tho to my disappointment "
— Tracey, 1/4/2014" My second favorite King novel - he even does fantasy supberbly. "
— Marion, 12/18/2013" Great fantasy, lots of thrill elements well written characters! "
— Marcia, 12/16/2013" Not like his usual style..better "
— Patricia, 12/13/2013" I hate this book. I love King but this was unreadable. There's a reason I hadn't heard of this one before. I didn't even finish the book and that never happens. "
— Tara, 10/18/2013" I absolutely loved this book. If I ever have kids, I would read this to them every night! "
— Katherine, 10/18/2013" Beautiful! And fun - in an Alexandre Dumas sort of way. Very 'Count of Monte Cristo'. "
— Vrinda, 10/10/2013" I listened to this one on cd's to see if my son would like it. It started out kind of slow and I kept thinking I'd stop listening but I finally got into it and it turned out to be good. "
— Jody, 6/12/2013" Fun fairy tale with interesting characters and the villain from the Stand and the Dark Tower Randall Flagg the main villain here as well. Hints there might be a sequel or that the characters might show up in the Dark Tower but apparently they never did beyond a brief mention. "
— Danny, 5/17/2013" I bought it for more Randall Flagg. I kept it because I hate to chuck books. Then again, being older than 12, I wasn't the target audience. "
— Comedian999, 5/7/2013" could have been a good book. the story itself was good but the way it was written ruined it "
— Danielle, 4/23/2013" Great story! I'm sorry that I waited so long to read it. "
— Casey, 4/9/2013" Discovered this book around the same time as my recess incident (see "It"). I was at a Halloween party where I won best costume. I spent the majority of the party reading this book. One of the best parties I've ever attended in my life. "
— Glucose, 2/27/2013" I've read it several times. The master of all things dark delving into an epic world of fantasy? What could be better? I wish he would do it more often. "
— Corey, 1/19/2013" I wouldn't really call this epic fantasy as the synopsis says. Was an ok read but not at all what I was expecting. Really not much of an adventure at all. Rather predictable outcome as well. "
— Killer, 7/24/2012" It took to long to actually get into the main plot. "
— Julie, 12/20/2011" A surprising fairy tale that was my first introduction to Stephen King--and the story that I've told orally around campfires to scare my friends since I was 12 years old. "
— Breanna, 10/27/2011" Haven't finished it, but will have to eventually because it is on the syllabus. I'm not a fan (anymore) of the fantasy genre, so I kept putting it down. It's not bad though. "
— Jeanne, 9/28/2011" Not the usual Stephen King book, reads a bit like a fairy tale. A good easy read. "
— Michael, 9/6/2011" Definitely predictable and derivative in its desire to be "traditional", this all-ages fantasy story isn't half bad, although I was hoping for more parallels with the Dark Tower series. "
— Russ, 6/23/2011" so far, its pretty good, but at a certin point they kinda just give it away. "
— Danielle, 5/5/2011" It was REALLY good. This is just like, book one,, so I'm lookn' forward to reading the next!! "
— Jessica, 4/21/2011" I did like it a lot, however it was to predictable. I enjoyed it enough to get right into the next book though. I think my 10 year old would love it. "
— Jeanette, 4/6/2011" Mirip2 Harry Potter emang, tp setting dan backgroundnya kurang detail "
