Publisher Description

Two men of words...One seeking only peace. The other, violence.

Tate Collier, once one of the country's finest trial lawyers, is trying to forget his past. Now a divorced gentleman fanner, land developer, and community advocate in rural Virginia, he's regrouping from some disastrous mistakes in the realms of love and the law. But controversy -- and danger -- seem to have an unerring hold on Tate. And even as he struggles to regroup, his alter ego is plotting his demise.

Aaron Matthews, a brilliant psychologist, has turned his talents away from curing patients to far deadlier goals. He's targeted Tate, his ex-wife, Bett, and their estranged daughter Megan for unspeakable revenge. Matthews, ruthless and hell-bent, will destroy anything that inhibits his plans. When their daughter disappears, Tate and Bett reunite in a desperate, heart-pounding attempt to find her, and to stop Matthews, a psychopath whose gift of a glib tongue and talent for coercion are as dangerous as knives and guns.

Featuring an urgent race against the clock, gripping details of psychological manipulation, and the brilliant twists and turns that are trademark Deaver. Speaking in Tongues delivers the punch that has made this author a bestseller. It will leave you speechless.

"I remember Deaver from the Bone Collector. His writing skills is one of a talented writer. Although reading thrillers weren't really on my reading radar or so called booklist as you will, because I prefer to watch them than rather having to go through the bore of reading them lol...actually this book I picked up when I was cleaning out my old closet, full with dust and what not, and I was totally bored so I decided to give it a try. I was impressed because there's only so much I can take with thrillers and then I get bored because they turn out more predictable than I would've hoped. Deaver never fails to introduce enough suspense in his writing, and the characterising he portrayed was brilliant. Some can argue that the characterisation was unrealistic, but Deaver allows us to get into the mind of psychopath with incredible talent with his words, cleary shows us that words can go along way, and the fact that these two main characters share the one talent, it makes the pacing in the story flow very well. Motives were understandable as well as plot, I couldn't pick a better thriller for a night in with some popcorn...just be sure not to choke on my watch lol..."

" Deaver has written better novels but this has the pace and series of twists to keep the reader engaged throughout. Aaron Matthews is a great creation - a psychiatrist who uses his powers of psychoanalytical profiling and persuasion to wreak revenge on Tate Collier and his family. Characterisation was trimmed to a minimum to focus on the plot development which made this an effective thriller but not one to linger in the memory. "

" This was a fun, easy read. What I found most distracting was the author's attempts at teenage conversation. I think he based their diaglouge on how he thought young people speak, which in reality, is not even close. I'm not sure if he does not have exposure to young adults in his day to day life, or uses blatant idiot-teenager stereotypes. Either way, I found the innacurate dialouge distracting. "

" I am sorry to say that I did not even finish this book, I disliked it so much. The main character is a crazy teenager who hears voices (of her stronger, wilder self) and is kidnapped by a brillian, evil psychiatrist looking for a mate for his violent and insane son. What's to like? The girls parents search for her but have their own issues. Depressing and uninvolving. "
