Steve Hamilton’s novels starring ex-cop and sometime–private investigator Alex McKnight have won multiple awards and appeared on bestseller lists nationwide. And when you start listening to Winter of the Wolf Moon, you will instantly understand why …
When a young woman from the Ojibwa tribe asks McKnight for shelter from her violent boyfriend, McKnight agrees. But after letting her stay in one of his cabins, he finds her gone the next morning. His search for her brings on a host of suspects, bruising encounters, and a thickening web of crime, all obscured by the relentless whiplash of brutal snowstorms. From the secret world of the Ojibwa reservation to the Canadian border and deep into the silent woods, someone is out to kill―and McKnight is heading right into the line of fire.

"I really enjoyed A Cold Day in Paradise, and this follow up featuring detective Alex McKnight did not disappoint! Of course, I think I enjoyed it in part due to the fact it takes place in Michigan, which is where I live/grew up (although "below the bridge" and not in the UP as the story takes place). But I think the writing, story, characters, all very engaging. I had a few suspicions but I was still kept guessing till the end."

“Hamilton presents a fast mystery brimming with insight into both the politics of US/Canadian border crimes and the relations between Native Americans and their white neighbors.”
— Publishers Weekly (starred review)“Start to finish, an excellent mystery.”
— Booklist“His protagonist is likable as well as durable, his raffish cast sharply observed and entertaining.”
— Kirkus Reviews" Second in the series (first won an Edgar). Protagonist is strangely weak and fragile, not consistent enough. "
— Captain, 2/19/2014" A good, fast read. If you want to cool off in the summer heat, read this! Lot's of snow. "
— Laurel, 2/18/2014" Leon Prudell made this book IMHO. McKight is interesting and I enjoyed the play between the two characters. "
— Johnnie, 2/12/2014" This book is well-written and atmospheric, but the main character's no Sherlock Holmes. Alex McKnight repeatedly makes wrong assumptions, walks into traps, gets beaten up and/or arrested. Really a lousy detective -- this should have been called a Leon Prudell Mystery. "
— Jennifer, 2/2/2014" pretty good, will read another in the series. "
— Lori, 1/24/2014" A chance encounter with some nice folks turned me onto Mr. Hamilton. This was my first one and am now reading Blood is the sky. Mysteries and the UP is a good combo for me. I will probably read all of his books. They are very readable, fast paced and fun. "
— Rick, 1/19/2014" makes me hungry to read the rest of the series "
— Kim, 1/15/2014" Good, but not as captivating as the first book in this series about a reluctant PI in MI's UP. Still, I plan to read the sequel. "
— Stacy, 1/9/2014" Not as interesting as A Cold Day in Paradise. "
— Elaine, 1/3/2014" Much reading enjoyment for a "Yooper." Steve Hamilton enjoys taking to extremes the natural elements of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. And, anyone who has traveled from Paradise to the "Soo" understands the journey Alex constantly makes to and fro. "
— Chris, 12/30/2013" Steve Hamilton is a dynamic author and his Alex McKnight series is one of the best series I have read. I really try not to give the slightest hints of spoilers when I have found a series or author I like. "
— Naomi, 12/8/2013" Solid mystery -- McNight is a reluctant private investigator, former Detroit detective living in the UP in Michigan. Good dialogue, intereseting characters. McNight has a knack for getting himself in over his head, and this book is no exception. Thought it was even better than the first. "
— Laura, 12/1/2013" This is a really good series so far. I like the main character Alex McKnight. Made me think a lot about a part of the country that I know nothing about. Had to get out my trusty atlas. I shivered just reading this book! "
