Edgar Award winner Steve Hamilton takes his acclaimed series to new heights in A Stolen Season. If you thought you knew Alex McKnight and how far he’ll go for the people he cares about … think again.
On a freezing night in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, a night that wouldn’t feel so unusual if it weren’t the Fourth of July, a boat plows full speed into a line of old railroad pilings in the shallow water of Waishkey Bay. After Alex helps rescue the passengers, he figures he’ll never see them again. He couldn’t be more wrong. The men he saved are connected to a deadly drug-smuggling syndicate, and it’s up to Alex to do damage control―and protect the woman he loves―before the cycle of violence comes around full circle.

"This is my favorite series and I have looked forward to each one in the series. This time I anticipated some of the action. I recommend this series to everyone and I usually tell them that it isn't important to read them in order but this book is the first one that I would say that it would be better if they read the last book or two instead of jumping in here."
— Robin (5 out of 5 stars)
“The chill of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula doesn’t cool the action in Edgar winner Hamilton’s expertly paced seventh Alex McKnight novel.”
— Publishers Weekly" I've read every Alex McNight book by Hamilton in order and this entry seemed slapped together in 30 minutes. It's not very strong and lacks so much depth and detail of other books. Fact is, The Lock Artist is Hamilton's best work by far. It was pure genius. The McNight series has run its course. Don't start with this one. "
— Robin, 2/16/2014" The latest in another series I've come to depend on for an annual installment of good detective drama. I've grown way too attached to Alex McKnight, and I'd really like to hang out in front of the fireplace of his friend's bar with a Canadian Molson. One of the pleasures of these books is the glimpse it gives of the upper peninsula. "
— Pamela, 2/13/2014" Another good read by this author. I like it because the story takes place mostly in the eastern end of the UP, Paradise and Soo, MI. "
— Arlene, 2/8/2014" First one of Hamilton's books that I cried while reading. "
— Elaine, 2/4/2014" Loved the book, even if it left my favorite fiction character devastated. Here's hoping there's something good coming Alex McKnight's way... "
— Uncouth13, 1/10/2014" Sorry, but I'm not unhappy that she is dead. I'll leave it at that so that this won't be quite a spoiler. I do love Alex's friends. I do think, though, that Alex and his friends suffer from a lack of impulse control, and I am beginning to find it annoying. "
— Katherine, 1/10/2014" I liked this book, and thought it was the best one since the first two that he wrote. "
— Johnnie, 1/10/2014" This is a great suspense novel with lots of drama and action. "
— Kristen, 12/21/2013" Hamilton's Alex McKnight books are all good solid mysteries. More important to me, they take place in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (Paradise, MI, specifically). The geography, landscape and weather are always a huge part of the story. It's as good as being there but warmer. "
— Judy, 10/31/2013" I'm always a fan of series where the setting is as much a part of the story as the characters themselves. McNight has some dark issues to deal with in this one. "
— Laura, 10/28/2013" good book ..i'll read more of alex mcknight... the setting is in the upper peninsula, of course that can't be all bad. i think this book is further along in the series. will have fun getting to know the characters. i'm a series addict. "
— Michelle, 10/27/2013" Quite a few more twists and surprises. "
— Greg, 10/1/2012" This book, in the Alex McKnight series, wasn't my favorite of the series, but still a good read. The main character, Alex, has some happy times in this one with a lady in his life. I enjoy the sense of place in this series as well. "
— Maryann, 8/20/2012" Like the story, especially, the voice of the reader! "
— Jiyi, 6/20/2012" Outstanding; Continuing character: Alex McKnight; McKnight and his OPP girlfriend Natalie are on two sides of the same case without knowing it - until Natalie is killed "
— Joe, 5/23/2012" Another solid outing in this series. I echo those who say that this one makes more sense having read a few of those that came before. "
— Andrea, 5/3/2012" Again couldn't not put down. One of those books that make you want to scream. "
— Suzette, 3/16/2012" This is my second Steve Hamilton book and it's excellent. I'm hooked on Hamilton and plan to buy all of his books. The first one I read--The Lock Artist--was one of the best books I've read in a long, long time. "
— Les, 3/15/2012" A few new characters, I found this plot a little unbelievable. However, I still like McKnight and will keep reading. "
— Cathy, 2/18/2012" I was thrilled to find out another book in this series is coming out in June! This one is a roller coaster thriller with excellent writing. "
— Kevin, 12/13/2011" I listened to this, an unabridged audiobook. It was kept my interest during a rather long road trip "
— Pam, 11/28/2011" Incredible book and a great series. "
— Mary, 6/19/2011" This is my second Steve Hamilton book and it's excellent. I'm hooked on Hamilton and plan to buy all of his books. The first one I read--The Lock Artist--was one of the best books I've read in a long, long time. "
— Les, 5/16/2011" Incredible book and a great series. "
— Mary, 3/26/2011" Another good read by this author. I like it because the story takes place mostly in the eastern end of the UP, Paradise and Soo, MI. "
— Arlene, 11/24/2010" I really liked this book until the author killed off one of my favorite new characters. With no new Alex McKnight novels out, I'll have to wait to see what happens next. "
— Sbennett, 11/17/2010" Outstanding; Continuing character: Alex McKnight; McKnight and his OPP girlfriend Natalie are on two sides of the same case without knowing it - until Natalie is killed
"
— Joe, 8/30/2009" Not a bad book, just not great by any stretch of the imagination. Light and a quick read, a good break from heavier books. "
— Ken, 12/30/2008" Takes place in upper Michigan. Main character happens to see a boat crash and saves the occupents. Boaters were up to no good and come looking for a missing suitcase. Mayham ensues. "
— Dave, 8/12/2008" Again couldn't not put down. One of those books that make you want to scream. "
— Suzette, 6/12/2008" This is a great suspense novel with lots of drama and action. "
— Kristen, 5/30/2008" It was okay. I didn't enjoy it as much as some of his earlier boks. Maybe it was too predictable is similar to the others. We travelled the Soo and the area up in the UP, so it added somewhat to the interest.

Tom "
