For ex-Wall Streeter Jacobia "Jake" Tiptree and her teenage son, Sam, September promises tranquil days winter-proofing their rambling handyman's special of a home in Eastport, Maine. But there's nothing idyllic about this Down East autumn. For starters, the return of truly vicious native son Reuben Tate stirs up the town. And when somebody slits Reuben's throat and hangs his corpse on the cemetery gate, the police trace a bloodied scalpel to surgeon Victor Tiptree—Jake's former husband. Yet Jake knows her troublesome, trouble-prone ex is capable of just about anything except murder. Proving that, though, will involve nailing the real killer.

"Terrific mystery series with great home fix-it tips! Whenever I read one of these, I think I should get started on some home repairs. The plot, which basically deals with bullying and its effects, is handled very well. Unltimately, the victim became the bully. Life in a small coastal Maine town still has its dark side. The characters are consistent and believable. Most of the strings are tied up in the end, but still, some aspects are left unanswered."

“Ms. Graves has created a bright and personable new detective who has been welcomed into the Eastport community with warmth and affection.”
— Dallas Morning News“Graves skillfully…draws out the suspense. Good entertainment.”
— Publishers Weekly“Small-town cozies feature tiny hamlets that have higher homicide rates than any crime-ridden metropolitan neighborhood! Graves skillfully creates another such town in Eastport, Maine, along with a tight plot, clever idioms, and a horde of eccentric characters. Lindsay Ellison’s narration is crisp, and her delivery of pithy sayings spot-on. She even manages to deliver a down-east accent without slipping into caricature. She chuckles with obvious delight at the dialogue, whispers conspiratorially about dark secrets suitable for blackmail, and expresses her dismay with the new ‘sly, grinning worm in the apple.’ The clever dialogue drives this novel, creating characters sparkling with life.”
— AudioFile" yeah, i liked this one. i'm not telling you what it's about though,. it'll spoil it! "
— Francesca, 2/20/2014" I enjoyed this book. I guess after reading 3 of hers, they are growing on me. This was a great mystery where you never really could pin down any certain suspect because there were so many great ones. Suspense till the end. "
— Jodi, 2/14/2014" This series is possibly going over to the "don't read anymore" list. Jacobia is an amateur sleuth, but by this title, only the 3rd in the series, she is someone the local police and other people in town turn to to solve murders. Why? I may try one more down the road, but I just don't care that much. "
— Patti, 1/18/2014" Still find too much natural description of Eastport, and too much technical home repair for my taste, but enjoy the characters and the plot is good. My daughter gave me the whole series so in between other books, I read these. "
— Shirley, 12/15/2013" This is the best yet of the Sarah Graves. "
— Kristen, 11/24/2013" Good. solid series. "
— Ruth, 11/21/2013" This is the third book in the Home Repair Is Homicide Mysteries. The second book was not available at my local library. This one, too, is a quick, fun read. "

— Nancy, 11/17/2013" I love all the Wall Street Drama Sarah Graves brings to her mysteries. "
— Cindy, 11/16/2013" The third in the series, it was not my favorite. I do enjoy the personalities and I will continue to read the series as long as the "people" prove interesting -- and the mysteries aren't as tedious as this one. "
— K., 5/11/2013" Just a lot of fun. I love reading about Maine. "
— Julie, 4/20/2013" Plot was full of holes and unintresting, which caused me to stop reading about halfway through. "

— Cheryl, 10/14/2012" I listened to this book while working. It was easy to follow so that if I wasn't paying attention all the time I still knew what was going on. I enjoy these cozy mysteries and would recommend this to someone who like the genre. "
— Maria, 8/25/2012" Too much Victor, which is sort of impressive actually because the character doesn't actually physically appear in much of the book, and yet his character is pervasive throughout the entire thing. Other than that it was another great romp in Eastport from Ellie and Jacobia. "
— Danie, 8/18/2012" her best so far. guessed who done it but not all the ins and outs-shocked at the ending "
— Bevjirwin, 5/30/2012" red herring abound, I was off by one sister "
— Helen, 4/2/2012" I loved the book, but I figured out the bad guy fot the first time. Hopefully, I wont be disappointed with the next book in the series. "
— Liz, 2/29/2012" The Snoop Sisters are at it again. Third book in the series but second book of the series that I have read. Nice escape reading, but too formulaic for me. Too many other books I'd rather be reading. "
— Elizabeth, 1/4/2012" Thought I would enjoy this, having enjoyed "Dead cat bounce", the first book in this series, but it wasn't nearly engaging. The third book in the series went back to the library without me bothering to crack open the cover. "
— Jeannen, 9/18/2011" Annoyingly obvious and formulaic in the beginning it did get better but there are too many better authors to waste time on this one. "
— Mommalibrarian, 8/31/2011" red herring abound, I was off by one sister "
