Journey into the intricate world, where cultural collisions and deep-seated prejudices lead to unexpected tragedy. The story follows the impulsive Lilia Herriton, who defies her conservative English family by marrying a passionate Italian while traveling in Italy. As her family intervenes to 'save' her, they are ensnared in a whirlpool of misunderstandings and conflicts. Forster masterfully explores themes of love, cultural arrogance, and the consequences of interfering in others' lives.
