Publisher Description

Combining the heart of her Newbery Honor-winning fiction and the spirit of her legendary Baby-Sitters Club series, Ann M. Martin introduces a timeless new series for girls

Flora and Ruby do not want to move to Camden Falls. But they don't really have a choice -- their parents are dead and their grandmother, Min, is taking them in. It's strange to be in a new place. But luckily, it's a very welcoming place.

Min runs a sewing store, Needle & Thread, at the heart of Main Street in Camden Falls. There, Flora and Ruby become friends with Olivia, who likes to organize things, and Nikki, who lives on the wrong side of the tracks. Even if Flora and Ruby never expected it to, Camden Falls becomes their home...and its stories become a part of their stories.

"I have no sisters, but a cousin who is pretty much just the same. The age difference to my cousin and I and Flora and Ruby are about the same, and Min is exactly as energetic and fun as our grandmother! I think that the fact that they are about the same age as my cousin and I really adds to the interest because they act sort of like us and relate to us in some ways."

Quotes

  • “Meyers presents us with thoughtful older sister Flora and younger Ruby, whose tumult of feelings rockets from one extreme to another. In addition, Meyers gives a convincing portrayal of the girls' grandmother, several friends, and a boy with Down’s syndrome. Meyers is gifted in the nuances of feelings, helping listeners empathize with these characters.”

" Flora and Ruby's parents died in a car accident and now they have to move to Camden Falls to live with their grandma Min. Min has a sewing store and there they make two new friends, Olivia and Nikki. Maybe Camden Falls isn't so bad after all! I think it is a good book for a 9-10 year old. "

" These series are angled towards a younger audience - the last couple books start to get not that good anymore - it starts around number 7 and then accelerates downhill. Admittedly, I haven't read number 10. However, the books up until there are really good, and I loved them when I was little. "
