Plot Summary

Jack Ryan, having returned only recently to the Oval Office, immediately faces a new international threat. In China, an aborted coup forces the President Wei Zhen Lin to submit to the expansionist policies of General Su Ke Quiang. Taiwan is the target of this expansion, and the South China sea is soon declared a protectorate.

Ryan's administration must deter the stealthy maneuvers of the Chinese, but the price the U.S. might pay is costly. Indeed, the next generation of Chinese missiles thwart the plans of the US Navy to guard the island of Taiwan. Yet this is only the beginning.

Chinese cyber-warfare wages onward and takes the stakes to a new level. Its hackers launch a virulent assault on the multilateral infrastructure of America. Cyber warfare may be new, but it is just as deadly as all that has come before it.

Jack Ryan's son and his peers at The Campus, an alternative secret agency, might be the one key the administration needs to topple the Chinese. The only trouble is--someone has discovered this secret agency and is threatening to expose them to the world.

Tom Clancy was born in 1947. An insurance agent turned writer, he is most famous for his highly technical spy and military science novels, which are set during the post Cold War era. He is a conservative, belongs to the Republican party, and has been a member of the National Rifle Association since 1978. He is also part-owner of the Baltimore Orioles.

"Another great novel by Tom Clancy. An aggressive China using cyber warfare and all of its anti-access / area denial capabilities seeks to gain control of the South China Sea. Jack Jr, associates, the USN and the USMC lead the defense, then counterattack. The weaving of cyber, deception, and AA/AD TTPs make this a very contemporary and relevant read."

Publisher Summary

Jack Ryan has only just moved back into the Oval Office when he is faced with a new international threat. An aborted coup in the People's Republic of China has left President Wei Zhen Lin with no choice but to agree with the expansionist policies of General Su Ke Quiang. They have declared the South China Sea a protectorate and are planning an invasion of Taiwan. The Ryan administration is determined to thwart China’s ambitions, but the stakes are dangerously high as a new breed of powerful Chinese anti-ship missiles endanger the US Navy's plans to protect the island. Meanwhile, Chinese cyber warfare experts have launched a devastating attack on American infrastructure. It's a new combat arena, but it’s every bit as deadly as any that has gone before. Jack Ryan, Jr. and his colleagues at the Campus may be just the wild card that his father needs to stack the deck. There's just one problem: someone knows about the off-the-books intelligence agency and threatens to blow their cover sky high.

" AAArrrgh comes to mind, the technical detail is ok ,the plots are becoming thinner, there is hardly intrigue or thriller moments , infact it is hardly a page turner. I have read all of Mr Clancys work but please lets have a break with all these other hanger ons . Im going to be hard pushed to buy another one and from such a talented author its a tragic shame i expect so much more than an okay novel "

" Obviously a continuation of the evolution of Jack Ryan Jr. from "desk jockey" at Hendley Associates into the agent his father Jack Ryan Sr. became. It was sad because one of the members of the original team was killed, but the book was exciting and very hard to put down. "

" I enjoyed it. It didn't keep my interest and the intensity up as much as the previous books. But Clancy (and whoever) are still the model for what everyone else is trying to do. The intrigue and geo-political motivations are still top notch and second to none. "
