"Been a long time since I read this and after reading A Discovery of Witches -- at the end, it reminded me of this story. Rice creates a gothic spooky world and the story is well done. I actually own this book, so may dig it out and re-read..."

" The book started strong, and I could barely put it down. After the lead female character succumbed to "the man", I was over it! This one had a super-soft ending and I felt completely let down. "

" So this book moves a little slowly when you get to the middle of the book. The pages and pages and pages of the history of mayfair witches is both interesting and annoying. It reads like a history book or research (which granted it authentic to it's place in the story) but it's kind of like hitting traffic when you're on the expressway. You're moving right along getting into the book and getting interested in the characters and bam - let's read tons of diary entries and field notes about the mayfair family. most of which will get kinda revised later in the story anyway. there had to be a better way for rice to tell that information. i mean even if she did it as flashbacks. anyway i was kinda mad at the ending - even though it was thoroughly predictable except spoiler... i thought aaron and michael were done-sky and was relieved that they weren't. despite my frustration toward the end of the book i have to admit i'm hooked and i plan on reading lasher whenever it comes in at the library :) much better than interview with the vampire!
