For as long as she can remember, twelve-year-old Emily Windsnap has lived on a boat. And, oddly enough, for just as long as her mother has seemed anxious to keep Emily away from the water. But when Mom finally agrees to let her take swimming lessons, Emily makes a startling discovery--about her own identity, the mysterious father she's never met, and the thrilling possibilities and perils shimmering deep below the water's surface. With a sure sense of suspense and richly imaginative details, first-time author Liz Kessler lures us into a glorious world where mermaids study shipwrecks at school and Neptune rules with an iron trident--an enchanting fantasy about family secrets, loyal friendship, and the convention-defying power of love.

"Quick read but very cute. Should probably be listed on Cuteoverload.com. I liked the voice of Emily; it was very realistic and teenager-y. The artwork was beautiful but I didn't think it matched the tone of the book. Might have to give the others a shot."

" good book very interesting "
— kinsha, 9/10/2019" Another book that Anna was reading. It's a good one for young girls. "
— Leslie, 2/17/2014" I read this when I was younger, it's an okay book. "
— Tess, 2/9/2014" This story is about a twelve year old girl who discovers that she is part mermaid, part human. The story line has Emily struggling to find who she is and being proud of it, and trying to get her family back together. These themes are very aimed at the young girl reader but as an older reader I did not find this book capturing my attention. If the writing wasn't so specific for an age range, girls aged 9 to 11 years I'd guess, it may become a bit more interesting. "
— Kimberlee, 2/1/2014" awesome makes you see the sea from another perspective "
— Millie, 1/29/2014" Interesting! It would be good for middle-grade readers. "
— Elise, 1/26/2014" I read this with my daughters. They loved the tale of a girl discovering she was really a mermaid when she went in the water. I think they secretly wish they were mermaids too! A fun read-a-loud book for moms and daughters to enjoy together. "
— Kristy, 1/26/2014" Read this as a kid! "
— Mikayla, 1/26/2014" This is a book about a girl named Emily finds out that she is a mermaid. I mostly like it because it has a lot of mysterys you get to figure out. "
