President Jesse Wood has a mission for Christian Gillette: post-Communist Cuba. There are secret negotiations going on with senior capitalists in Cuba concerning the US and the President wants Gillette to handle it, but is clear that if the discussions ever came to light, the trail cannot lead back to the Oval Office. Seeing no option but to accept the dangerous mission, Gillette heads to Florida with best friend and bodyguard, Quentin Stiles, leaving his capable and alluring protege Allison Wallace in charge of Everest. Though they are soon a thousand miles apart, it turns out they are both in grave danger—and now they aren't around to help each other survive.

"THIS WAS A GREAT STORY WITH LOTS OF CHARACTERS WOVEN TOGETHER LIKE AN EXPERT. ONLY PROBLEM IS THE ENDING WAS BROUGHT TOGETHER AS THOUGH STEPHEN HAD A DEADLINE TO MEET AND EVERYTHING JUST ENDED! IT WAS STILL A GREAT READ, MY FIRST ONE BY THIS AUTHOR BUT I WILL READ MORE. "

“[A] timely thriller…supercharged fun.”
— New York Daily NewsIt’s high action, worthy of a long winter’s read.”
— Barron’s“[A] timely thriller…The action quickly takes on a life of its own.”
— Publishers Weekly“Happily, Holter Graham differentiates important characters flawlessly. Graham gives four women, countless Cuban men, and a host of other figures more than accents—he gives them identities…Graham never wavers, making a sometimes difficult plot uncomplicated.”
— AudioFile“Larger-than-life…Plenty of political intrigue, twists and fast-paced action will keep you hooked till the end of this suspenseful potboiler.”
— RT Book Reviews" not much to this book. "
— John, 10/5/2013" Lame book. Don't read it. Dumb plot. Poor writing:( The only reason I gave it one star was because there was no way to give it negative stars..... "
— Hella, 7/14/2013" Chairman - Protege - Power Broker - Successor. In this order, follow the career of Christian Gillette through these four novels. The best is the Chairman and then the rest are a blur, but some were better than others. "
— Sue, 4/5/2013" Narrated by Holter Graham. The story line seemed a little far-fetched. I don't understand why it took a brilliant business person so long to figure out he was being conned. "
— Susan, 1/19/2013" I have to admit, Stephen Frey's Christian Gillette books are wearing a bit thin for me. This one just had too many characters to keep track of, and I didn't really care much what happened to any of them. "

— Crablady79, 12/24/2010" Well done! I like the way it was woven into real potentials. "
— Donna, 10/6/2010" Entertaining--not sufficiently believable to engage me "
— Rich, 8/16/2010" A lot of uninteresting characters made the book a little dull. It also seemed a bit choppy going back and forth between the individuals. At times I felt like the author just created characters and made them fit together. "
