Michael Rose is the chief financial officer of a top energy company headquartered in Washington, DC. At forty-two, he is the odds-on favorite to become the next CEO. He is also the proud father of two kids, and he's about to find out just how far he'd go to protect them. Rose is working hard to acquire a global information technology company. What he doesn't know is that the company is a cutout—a company used as a pawn by intelligence agencies. The plan has met resistance from two of his board members, though Rose has never known why, and the IT company is also trying to avoid being acquired. But he pushes ahead, unaware that he's tightening the noose around his own neck—especially when one of the complicit foreign governments realizes he's about to discover their involvement.

"This is a great thriller with all the twists and turns. I found it easy to keep the large cast of characters in mind and the only disappointment in the book is I didn't really like any of them! Let' hope our government has not gone this far in keeping 'tabs' on us! "
— Kay (4 out of 5 stars)
" The premise of the plot was fabulous. Unfortunately, Frey gave it a lacklustre group of characters, unimaginative writing that sometimes made me think I was reading a Barbara Cartland novel, and a fairytale ending that resolved in 2 pages what happened in the previous 400 "
— Ricardo, 1/20/2014" Excellent book. If our government has any thing like the stuff described in this book we have huge problems. It made me wonder how far our politicians will go to keep the fear level up. "
— Joe, 1/16/2014" Very preposterous plot (even for this genre) and very 1D characters. There was not much to like about this one. Actually, I am surprised that I even finished it. "
