Publisher Description

The Strangers on Montagu Street, the third in Karen White’s enchanting series, follows The House on Tradd Street and The Girl on Legare Street. Psychic realtor Melanie Middleton is still restoring her Charleston house and doesn’t expect to have a new houseguest, a teen girl named Nola. But the girl didn’t come alone, and the spirits that accompanied Nola don’t seem willing to leave …

"Melanie and Jack's relationship has always been one step forward, two steps back. In this third installment, their relationship was more like five huge leaps forward and one step back. Melanie is not nearly as stupid about the while thing (although she still has her not so bright moments). And I thought the addition of Nola, Jack's thirteen year old daughter, to the cast of characters was just delightful! Once again, the balance of romance, suspense, and spookiness was just perfect. Now if only Karen White could write faster so we can see how it turns out...or maybe she is going to keep stringing us along for more books. Other than the fact that they are not written, more of these delightful ghost stories would be welcome!"

" So the ghost story part was great and I even liked the addition of Nola the teenage daughter Jack never knew about. My problem is the handling of Mellie and Jack's relationship. Why can't they just sit down and talk it out like adults? It seems every time they start to talk something interrupts them just so it can drag out some more. I think that we could still be solving a different ghost story each time without all this relationship torture to add to suspense. "

" Seemed kind of slow to get started and spent a lot of time rehashing the history of the series. The second 1/2 was much more enjoyable than the first but didn't like that the ending was so abrupt. Definitely left it open for more books in the series. "

" I wish I could find a way to embrace the main character rather than finding her annoying, stupid & juvenile! Because I love the story. Their always well written, the other characters are great, the ghost story/mysteries are great - all the elements are there for me but for Melanie... and this one ends in a cliff-hanger so I'll have to continue to read the series (which I'd do anyway). In this latest, Melanie agrees to watch Jack's new found daughter Nola, since they're not getting along. Melanie's house is a mess and so they eventually go stay with her mother. There's a dollhouse, a dead mother, a creepy old lady with lots of family secrets and the usual teen-aged romance stuff between about-to-turn-40 Melanie and Jack. All in all though, this was a lot of fun. "

" A good library read - I enjoyed myself, but also figured out all the final "shocking" parts long before they were revealed. Also, the main character sort of bugs me (she's whiny, a bit shallow, stubborn, and self-centered), though I keep reading the series because I like the rest of the cast. (And, they're fun, frivolous reads.) I'd never buy these books, but am happy to borrow them. "

" This book was par-for-the-course with Karen White up until the end. The ridiculous revelation at the end, which I assume is meant to be some sort of cliffhanger, didn't work for me at all and just left me completely frustrated with both the author and the main character. "

" I loved the premise of the book: historic Charleston, ghosts, hauntings, mystery....The only thing keeping this from being a great story was the pace. I found it dragged in spots...not boring enough to lose interest but not exciting enough to race home and pick it up. "
