As believers, our walk with God is motivated by hope, not the bland, vague notion most people have, but the expectation of an exotic, pleasurable inheritance that guides us and fires our passion...or, at least, should.
Ted Dekker has written an expose on the death of pleasure within the Church. Because many of us have set aside hope and the inspired imagination that drives it, Dekker says we have been lulled into a slumber of boredom, even despondency. Our faith wanes, the joy at having been liberated fades, and we feel powerless. The Slumber of Christianity explores what robs us of happiness and how we can rediscover it and live lives that rekindle hope. The pursuit of pleasure is a gift to all humans, a function of the Creator himself, who is bent upon our happiness.
It's time for Christians to reclaim our inheritance of pleasure. The Slumber of Christianity will inflame hearts toward full-fledged, mind-expanding encounters with hope, through the imagination.

"Ted Dekker's fiction revolutionized the way I looked at "Christian Fiction," and that same power is prevalent in this book as well. I highly recommend it. As for the subject matter, the title says it all. His premise is that Christians have fallen asleep to the hope of heaven. It is this hope that keeps us going in this life, and heaven is our ultimate prize. We will never find fulfillment in life on earth till we long for heaven."

— Craig, 1/2/2014" This book really hit me, especially where I am in my life right now. Dekker really has something to say in this book. It's not the same Christian jargan heard everywhere else. "
— Carrie, 12/13/2013" Ted Dekker gives us much to think about. While I'm not 100% in agreement with all his theology, he supports it well and makes me think in this non-fiction book on CD. "
— Dock, 11/21/2013" Wow. Little surprise that the author who writes such amazingly intense novels could also write such an amazing nonfiction book. I do think this is by far the best nonfiction book I'be ever read. Very powerful. I think it impossible to read through this book and not have your thinking changed. "
— Kristy, 11/12/2013" Ted Dekker should stick to fiction. This is not his strength. "
— David, 10/30/2013" A very convicting book. "
— Virgil, 10/21/2013" An explanation of why Dekker writes so passionately. "
— Brian, 10/14/2013" This is okay, but the arguments aren't tight. He has a very high view of what he has to say, as though this book is of more wight than it is. He's right in a lot of things, certainly, I just think the book may need a second chance at being written. "
— Peter, 8/8/2013" Ted Dekker has passion and I have read all of his adult books so far. This one is very different, and should be on every layperson's to read and discuss list. "
— Tonya, 5/15/2013" Perhaps our focus is off.. though i don't agree with everything this book says i think it has some great points and is one that many Christians here in the USA could gain something from. "
— Jon, 4/10/2013" The BIG question for Christians is why are we worried so much about our life on earth when it will comprise an immeasurable portion of our eternal life? Why are we not more passionate about the life to come while we are on earth? Before reading this book I never thought about that... "
— Randy, 1/2/2013" It is really between a 3 - 4. He put words on what I have seen, understand, and 'feel' in the Christian environment. There aren't many practical helps here - how do you recover that lost passion, fire that lukewarm love, etc? I do recommend reading it. "
— Cheryl, 7/12/2012" Good eye opener for sleeping or backsliden believers. "
— Michael, 2/27/2012" I think this guy took his ideas way to far. Another comtemporary Christian failure. "
— Jared, 12/18/2011" This book changed my life. "
— Zanda, 11/9/2011" This Is Amazing! -that's all i got to say. "
— Alyxandra, 8/1/2011" This is one that Christians need to read. Ted reminds us of the gift of imagination, given to us by God to be used for his glory. And he reminds us of our need to passionately serve God. Dekker is an amazing author. "
— Ursula, 6/5/2011" It was a good message, just a very lengthy book for a simple message. "
— Sarah, 5/26/2011" This is the best book on Heaven I've ever read. Many parts of this book made me want to cheer. It stirred something deep within me that's longing for Heaven. It is both encouraging and incredibly motivating.

I'm going to buy it and read it again with a highlighter. "

— Candy, 7/10/2010" One of my favorite of all of Ted Dekker's books. It was quite an eye opener for me. I totally believe that many Christians here in America are being lulled to sleep and don't even know it.

This book reminded me that my eyes and heart should be heaven bound instead of earthly tied.
