Publisher Description

The long-awaited follow-up to her groundbreaking best seller, now Dr. Laura focuses on how men and women need to understand and appreciate the uniqueness of masculinity and femininity; what the best ways to relate, caretake, and nurture each other are; and how to bring a marriage back from the brink of disaster.

Jumping off her million-copy best seller The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands, Dr. Laura asserts that in order to produce and sustain a wonderfully satisfying marriage, spouses must recognize and appreciate the polarity between masculine and feminine. Both husband and wife have power in the relationship, and each needs to realize this in order to ensure personal satisfaction. Using real-life examples from her call-in radio show, and giving real-life solutions, Dr. Laura focuses on the typical mistakes made by men and women in their relationships and shows how marriages can come back from the brink of disaster and divorce.

"I read this book when my wife and I were in a low point in our marriage, and I was so touched by Dr. Laura's sincere empathy. I found her counsel moving and helpful. I cried at several parts, aching to do better and be a better husband to my wife. I'll be re-reading this one."

" I take some of her advice and throw some out the window. I would be (and have been in the past) more open to her if she wasn't such a masculinist (as I call it). I could not finish this book. She had a great point when she referred to women's weaknesses as our strengths gone too far. But when the men showed their weaknesses the same way (as strenths gone too far), she continued to blame the women and let the men get away with everything under the sun. I'm not saying her advice is useless, but for crying out loud, give women some credit! Personally, I think relationships improve when BOTH people are committed and willing to recognize weakness, not put it all on the woman (as if we didn't have enough on our plates). "

" Oh Dr. Laura. I do like how she says things. There were many stories in this book that made me feel like a good wife. Some people are nuts. But kudos to those of you in a poor marriage and stick it out. "

" To sum it up, Dr. Laura basically teaches her readers how to "love thy neighbor (spouse) as thyself," and how to own up to and take responsibility for your behavior. I think this book could help bad marriages become good ones, and good marriages become great ones. "

" Sometimes her books make me mad. I feel like she always thinks it's the women's fault. Nonetheless, she does offer alot of good advice on how to improve your marriage. "

" I appreciated the overall message of the book, namely to respect and be loving of your spouse. That being said, I understand that not everyone who reads this book will be pleased. Dr. Laura is nothing if not blunt! "

" Perhaps Dr. Laura's best, this book focuses on both husband and wife and what marriage is all about. If you are in need of an attitude adjustment, look no further. Great stories and overall ideas on improving ourselves and doing our part. PG-13 for language. "

" I thought her other book, proper care and feeding of husbands, was better. Still had lots of good information, but I felt like this book was a reprint of the first, but retitled so more women would be willing to read it. Ladies, just go read the other book if you want to improve your marriage. "
