#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • Once he was a well-liked, well-paid young partner in a thriving Mississippi law firm. Then Patrick Lanigan stole ninety million dollars from his own firm—and ran for his life. They watched Danilo Silva for days before they finally grabbed him. He was living alone, a quiet life on a shady street in Brazil; a simple life in a modest home, certainly not one of luxury. Certainly no evidence of the fortune they thought he had stolen. He was much thinner and his face had been altered. He spoke a different language, and spoke it very well. But Danilo had a past with many chapters. Four years earlier he had been Patrick Lanigan, a young partner in a prominent Biloxi law firm. He had a pretty wife, a new daughter, and a bright future. Then one cold winter night Patrick was trapped in a burning car and died a horrible death. When he was buried his casket held nothing more than his ashes. From a short distance away, Patrick watched his own burial. Then he fled. Six weeks later, a fortune was stolen from his ex-law firm's offshore account. And Patrick fled some more. But they found him. "I would generally give a Grisham novel a 3 tops but this book was a page turner, I read it back in 1997 and I still remember almost all of it which is pretty odd for me. I have never understood why they have never made a movie out of this book. Of all the Grisham novels that I have read, this one is by far my favourite."
— Corinna (5 out of 5 stars)
“Grisham has an ear for dialogue and is a skillful craftsman.”

— Entertainment Weekly“An irresistible read…packed with surprises.”
— People“Brilliant…John Grisham may well be the best American storyteller writing today.”
— Philadelphia Inquirer“On its very first page, The Partner roars to life…the reader is transfixed.”
— Chicago Sun-Times“One can expect The Partner to fly off the shelves…Just put your seat back, relax, and enjoy the ride.”
— Chicago Tribune“There’s no doubt that Grisham has his finger on the pulse of America.”
— Orlando Sentinel“Masterfully paced and plotted…[Each of Grisham’s books] should bear a warning to consumers: ‘Detrimental to sleep. You may read all night.’”
— Atlanta Journal Constitution“Fabulous…It’s as compulsively readable as all the others.”
— Arizona Daily Star“Masterfully bittersweet…may be [Grisham’s] most satisfying ever.”
— Kirkus Reviews" Very suspenseful to the very end! Thought I had it figured out, but it threw me a curve. I think this is John Grisham’s best book and I have read them all. "
— Tommy Tiger, 3/12/2018" 3 1/2 stars. Pretty typical Grisham. Scott hated the ending, but I thought it was its most redeeming feature. "
— Melinda, 2/19/2014" I have liked all of Grisham books. "
— Ken, 2/16/2014" There is really nothing wrong with this book. It is a fairly typical Grisham story. For some reason, I just couldn't get to caring. Usually I abandon books, when I do, somewhere between the 10% and 33% marks. I finished over two thirds of this one. I kept catching up on podcasts, which normally only happens between books. I was continually tempted to read something else short in the middle, or spend a drive listening to music. Grisham puts ones foot in front of the other as adeptly as always, and I may pick this up again someday, but at every point I just didn't care how the thing ends up. Finally I decided I'd rather just stop and read something else. That I can think of immediately, this is my least favorite of his books. "
— Jeff, 2/11/2014" brilliant! one of the best books I've read "
— FraNorge, 2/10/2014" Far better than The Appeal, the ending of which seemed rushed and undeveloped. "
— Marty, 2/10/2014" I remember this being one of my favorite Grisham novels becasue I was so completely shocked by the ending - never saw it coming. "
— Suzanne, 1/29/2014" I wish I could say I loved this, but I really didn't. There are far too many people/lawyers involved, and it becomes rather difficult to remember who's whom. I did love the premise though, this clever guy steals a ton of money from other selfish, boorish, capitalist pigs and eventually gets away with it. I won't ruin the ending for anyone, but it was rather predictable. Oh well, on to my next Grisham novel for my Kindle. These novels are perfect for the Kindle! "
— Tracie, 1/28/2014" This was my 1st introduction to novels. I was only 12 at the time. Got me completely hooked on John Grisham. "
— Ayoola, 1/22/2014" [appx. 11/2002 - no comments] "
— Liz, 1/18/2014" got to the end and was SOOOOO MADDDDDD! "
— Melanie, 1/17/2014" Enjoyed this book. Ending wasn't what I thought it would be so a little surprised in a good way "
— Zoraida, 1/7/2014" I listened to this on CD as I have been running and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a great mystery that keeps tyou guessing to the very end. It is steeped in law and Brazil, so I figure Tyler will like it. I got sucked intothe story quickly and enjoyed finding bits of the answers as it went along. "
— Cam, 12/29/2013" do no longer remember "
— Natasa, 12/15/2013" Fun read. Sometimes folks get what is diserved. "
— David, 11/21/2013" I enjoyed this story. I'm not a picky reader and I love John Grisham so giving it five stars is easy for me. Not the ending that I thought, which was kind if good. Just means it wasn't predictable. :) "
— Michelle, 11/4/2013" The book was pretty good but unlike any of his others. This wasn't a courtroom drama which I tend to like. The ending was predictable...I saw it coming. "
— Rhonda, 10/15/2013" good quick read. hated the end though "
— Gretchen, 8/13/2013" Grisham at his best. A tight plot, solid characters, and plenty of suspense. "

— Barbara, 5/5/2011" Every man , at one or other time , has thought to run away from the routine!! "

— Thom, 4/25/2011" I love his work, suspense is his trademark. "
— Hugo, 4/25/2011" TRYING FOR THE PERFECT CRIME, THE SCAMMER GETS SCAMMED. "
— April, 4/23/2011" thought it was above average for Grisham but not his best "
— Tyler, 4/22/2011" I thought the book was excellent. But the last few pages presented a lousy ending. "
— Angie, 4/19/2011" i really enjoyed all the legal intrigue. reminded me of The Firm. sad about the end though "
— Melinda, 4/16/2011" The Partner is up to Grisham's usual standard. An intricate plot with many surprises and keeps the reader's attention to the very end. "
— Eric, 4/12/2011" The Partner is not one of the best Grisham's books. I think it's worth reading only because of the unpredictable ending. "
— Oleksiy, 4/10/2011" Dopo una morte inscenata e anni di fuga, il nostro "eroe" si lascia beccare dai soci del suo studio ai quali aveva rubato milioni di dollari. <br/> "
