The bestselling author of When The Bough Breaks, Blood Test, and Over The Edge delivers the most stunning novel yet and featuring psychologist-detective Dr. Alex Delaware. At a party for a controversial Los Angeles sex therapist, Alex encounters a face from his own past--Sharon Ransom, an exquisite, alluring lover who left him abruptly more than a decade earlier. Sharon now hints that he desperately needs help, but Alex evades her. The next day she is dead, an apparent suicide. Driven by guilt and sadness, Alex plunges into the maze of Sharon's life--a journey that will take him through the pleasure palaces of California's ultra-rich, into the dark closets of a family's disturbing past, and finally into the alleyways of the mind, where childhood terrors still hold sway.

"This book was definitely different from the other books in this series. I would say that this book went a lot into the psychology of the characters, and that itself was the real mystery. I like Kellerman because I'm interested in psych, therefore, I find this stuff interesting, however, if you like more action, I can see how you would not enjoy this book. For instance, I saw in one review that someone stated that they did not like how they had to read Sharon's whole thesis. I'm assuming that they got bored. It's funny because I thought that part was really cool, and I was sucked into the book at that point. I am happy that Kellerman put something like that in this book."
— Arjun (4 out of 5 stars)
A complex and haunting story of tangled personalities, deeply buried family secrets, and of violence lying thinly under the surface ... Hits the reader right between the eyes.
— Los Angeles Times Book Review" the first JK novel that I read after that I keep on reading his book "
— Ronny, 2/16/2014" I picked this up at my Library for 50cts & truly enjoyed Chap 1-15 with "Alex" as a Newbie. From that point on our hero seems to get very "learned" in a hurry, with the storyline disintegrating into the usual pattern of "Cops & Shrink" I enjoyed Kellerman at first, but I'm finding him as predictable as His newer work. Ho Hum! "
— Al, 2/12/2014" Still really liking this series. "
— Gillian, 2/2/2014" Okay, this book was so intriguing that I started reading it again in 2010 and got about a quarter of the way through before I realized I'd read it before. Strange twists one would never expect. "
— Karen, 1/27/2014" Old "twin" girlfriend commits suicide. "
— Jamie, 1/26/2014" One of the better ones in the series "
— Rob, 1/24/2014" This is a very interesting Alex Delaware mystery with a great deal of psychological background to it. Toward the end the plot becomes so twisted that it seems a bit forced, but it's still a very good read. "
— Katie, 12/31/2013" I needed to read this one again, fascinating. "
— Laine, 12/16/2013" Great book that I thoroughly enjoyed despite the sore throat & sneezing that the Book Police infected me with. Amazingly intricate relationships between the many characters but Kellerman pulls it off with great skill. "
— Jojo, 12/14/2013" This wasn't my favorite novel. It was a short book. As embarrassing as it is I actually got lost as to who was who. Their were a lot of characters that popped up and not a lot of time to explain. I still enjoyed the story line. "
— Kelly, 12/3/2013" I had stopped reading Jonathan Kellerman as they were getting to all be the same. Picked this up in the free pile in Bali. And I could hardly put it down! As all his books, pretty unlikely story, but the twinships and the mystery of it all kept me riveted. "
— Sandra, 11/14/2013" Very good story - very convoluted ... just like I prefer it. "
— El, 11/2/2013" Engrossing and slow. Intriguing, twisted, but single threaded. That bitch be crazy! A little too perfect for my taste, but entertaining, so I guess I had to rate it over 2 stars. "
— Jeff, 10/28/2013" My first Kellerman novel and I'm glad I read this book. There were a few expected suprises that will keep you anxious to know what will happen next. I'll definitely reading more from Kellerman. "

— Jewett, 9/7/2013" good makes to want to keep reading more of his writting "
— Warren, 9/4/2013" I always like Jonathon Kellerman's books. This one was a little to long in some parts and was way far fetched so I only gave it 4 stars. It was an easy read though. "
— Francie, 8/30/2013" Read this some time ago as all of this series so far. "
— Peggy, 7/24/2013" This book was a very different read. It was interesting, but it was very much in the head type of book. Not much action, but it was very interesting. "
— Jeffrey, 5/20/2013" It was ok. A little long and the ending appeared predictable. I would still continue to read the Alex Delaware series to see how the characters continue and develop. "
— C, 3/2/2013" Not bad, I've liked some of his other books better. "
— Melanie, 12/12/2012" Sex and old loves are woven deep in this murder mystery. Psychologist/detective Alex Delaware will have to unravel the threads of an old lover's life in order to solve this one. "
— Jane, 11/25/2012" Starts a little slow... But awesome after you get through the first 30 or so pages.... "
— Hadley, 10/1/2012" Alex Delaware #4....mental illness, suicide, blackmail and family secrets in this psychological thriller! "
— Valerie, 9/30/2012" Alex Deleware is estanged from Robin and runs in to a former lover with a mystery to solve. The end takes an unusual turn. "
— Cheryl, 9/6/2012" It was entertaining but annoying & not that good. "
— Felice, 6/10/2012" Not my favorite of his books. The plot was a little too improbable and convoluted for me. "
