Jessie and Benny Alden and their dog, Watch, are going to be in a community theater production of The Wizard of Oz. Henry, Violet, and Soo Lee get to help with scenery and costumes. The Boxcar Children are working hard to make the show a great success, but not everyone seems to care how the play turns out. The lead actress is always showing up late for rehearsal. Another actress complains about everything. And worse, the props get stolen, a costume is ripped, and there are mysterious phone calls and notes.

Will the show ever go on? Can the Boxcar Children solve the mystery in time for opening night?

About the Author
Author Gertrude Chandler Warner

Gertrude Chandler Warner (1890–1979) is best remembered as the author of the Boxcar Children mysteries. As a child, she spent hours watching trains near her home and often dreamed about what it would be like to live in a caboose or freight car. In each story, she chose a special setting and introduced unpredictable, unusual, or eccentric characters to help highlight the Aldens’ independence and resourcefulness. She lived in Putnam, Connecticut, until her death in 1979.
