"As the second book in the series it kicks off right where the first one ended. Nicholas and the twins are in paris which is home to numerous dark elders and enemies but Nicholas is able to find saint german and Sophie gets trained in the elemental magic of fire. Josh gets his hands on clarent the sword of fire and twin the excalibre the sword of ice which dee has. As Machiavelli is given orders from his dark elder to capture the twins as dee arrives in paris. The second book in the series is just as good as the first and adds a different way to see mythological history."

" I liked this book. I found it easier to "get into" than the first one, probably because there is now backstory and the characters are more developed. It was a lot of action, and not as predictable as the first book. I look forward to the next installment in the series to see what trouble these characters get into next. "
— Lisa, 2/20/2014" This book is even better than the first. I love the new characters and can't wait to see what Machavelli has up his sleeve. Also while certain parts of the book are certainly predictable there was enough unexpected twists (or just plain lack of the expected) to keep me interested. "
— Lindsey, 2/4/2014" Quick read. It is OK. "
— Dinah, 2/2/2014" A good story, perhaps for a younger reader. "
— Drew, 2/1/2014" I read the first book in this series for a book club. Not my normal genre of literature but I found it interesting. It is like a mystery, trying to figure out who controls Dee. Plus there is tons of action trying to evade different monsters and characters. I especially like that this book took place in Paris and mentions lots of historical places. Plus, using different characters from history like Macchiavelli and Joan of Arc make it interesting. "
— Athornton, 1/24/2014" The magician mostly told bout John Dee. Quite fascinating and full of suprise here and there. "
— Devi, 1/21/2014" El libro supera mucho al primero, y mientras el autor da vida a (la mayoria de)todos los mitos en un contexto "realista", la historia te atrapa, y te llena de dudas a medida que avanza. "
— Bocha, 1/19/2014" I really really love this series and the magician was just as good as the first, if not better. cant wait for 'the sorceress'. They are such a great mix of mythology, history and present day. "
— Jess, 12/18/2013" A very fun continuation to the adventures of Nicolas, Sophie,Josh, Perenelle, and Scatty. Great new characters really add to the fun. Love the appearance of such historical figures, like Joan of Arc and Machiavelli. Ready for book three! "

— Seth, 2/9/2013" This series starts out with a bang and keeps you running around the globe bumping into famous and not so famous characters in history balanced with a little mythology and a whole lot of fantasy! I can't wait to see how it ends. "
— Kellie, 11/21/2012" Loved it! Such an exciting and unpredictable read. Michael Scott is one of my new favorite authors. "
— cassie, 9/12/2012" This one is more exciting than the first one and using Paris as a backdrop also gave it a nice change. Also there is more about what happens to Perenelle and I find her to be a very fun and sassy person. "
— Maureen, 6/26/2012" One of the best books ever "
— Maura, 4/18/2012" Seemed to start a little slow but really picked up steam by the end. This book can lead you to spending a lot of time on Wikipedia but it is a fun read even without that. "
— James, 2/23/2012" The second book is even better then the first book. "
— Kristin, 2/13/2012" OOh the main antagonist is very dangerous. But do we know who that really is yet? Something tells me no... "

— Alyssa, 6/1/2011" This book was very exhierating and very intense. "
— Raven, 5/23/2011" Is just awesome, yet again a book that incorporates many different myths. How can't it be good? "
— Katie, 5/22/2011" not sure why Michael Scott tried to be relatable using current pop culture... Those may likely be irrelevant in the future. Anyway, with that observation aside, it was a decent book where fantasy and reality intersect. What if myths and legends really were true? "
— Nikki, 5/20/2011" This book was amazing and got me hooked into a series out of five i give it a seven "
— Alex, 5/18/2011" 1st of a fun easy read series - entertaining and light hearted! "

— Sophie, 5/17/2011" I had a really bad attitude about this book at first. As it went on, however, I got involved in the story and ended up enjoying it a lot. I will read the sequel, though it's not currently very high on my to-read list. "
— Kristin, 5/17/2011" A great mix of fact, fiction, and fantasy. If you've enjoyed books like The Da Vinci Code, The Historian, Harry Potter, and anything Tolkein, you should definitely read this book. Looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. "
— Jason, 5/15/2011" I'm a twin so i felt like it was my sister and I living this experience...although it was a very quick read i liked it very much it wasn't a killer book. "
— Brett, 5/15/2011" This book was amazing. I loved the way Michael just got into the point, not adding too much information and that got me more into reading this book. But Josh, who I thought was cool at first, got a bit annoying after Sophie's magic was awoken. "
