Publisher Description

Marshall Seaver is being haunted. In the first installment of this chillingly compelling trilogy, 16-year-old Marshall discovers that something beyond our world is after him. The eerie clues pile up quickly, and when people start dying, it's clear that whatever this is - it's huge.

Marshall has no idea what's happening to him, but he's soon convinced that it has something to do with his best friend, Cooper, who's been missing for over a week. Together with Coop's sister, Marsh searches for the truth about what happened to his friend, ultimately uncovering something bigger than he could ever have imagined.

"I enjoyed the beginning of this book more than I did the ending, but it was still a very enjoyable read. Some of the antics that went on made me want to role my eyes at times, but there were far more points that I enjoyed than those that annoyed me. I'm not going to run out right away to buy the sequel, The Black, but I will keep an eye out for it."

" By the same author who wrote the Pendragon series (which I REALLY liked). It was so-so. Actually kind of scary at the end, I did have some nightmares. Interesting enough for me to be interested in what happens next in The Black. "

" I thought this book was very good because plot. The main characters are Marshell, Sydney, and Cooper. When Cooper goes missing, Marshell and Sydney go to look for him. Along the way they are being haunted and Marshell and Sydney won't like the end result of all of this. "

" Excellent! This was very disturbing with all the creepy paranormal activities. Extremely fast paced and it was very hard to put the book down. I found myself yelling at the character in the book a few times to transfer my thoughts of action. I was glad to see that this was Book #1 of a 3 parter. "

" Ooooo, this book gave me chills and shivers as I got to the part in the cemetary. This is a spooky book. At one point I felt like the parents of Cooper were not acting like they might have in that situation. (The dad wanted to take the fishing boat out?) Definitely one that will keep you reading. "

" I like D.J MacHale for his Pendragon series. This one left me flat. It didn't seem all that scary. I couldn't care less if the bad guy caught the main character and killed him. Don't waste your time or money in purchasing it for the classroom. "
