Linda Davis’s local fabric shop is a place where women gather to share their creations: quilts commemorating important events in their lives. Wedding quilts, baby quilts, memorial quilts—each is bound tight with dreams, hopes, and yearnings.
Now, as her only child readies for college, Linda is torn between excitement for Molly and heartache for herself. Who will she be when she is no longer needed in her role as mom? What will become of her days? Of her marriage?
Mother and daughter decide to share one last adventure together—a cross-country road trip to move Molly into her dorm. As they wend their way through the heart of the country, Linda stitches together the scraps that make up Molly’s young life. And in the quilting of each bit of fabric—the hem of a christening gown, a snippet from a Halloween costume—Linda discovers that the memories of a shared journey can come together in a way that will keep them both warm in the years to come....

"I Love Susan Wiggs, her stories are so heartwarming! This was a very short wonderful story! The love between a mother and her daughter. What a great idea to make a quilt with little pieces of memories of your life or your child's...Great story!"
— Jess (4 out of 5 stars)
“Wiggs is one of our best observers of stories of the heart. She knows how to capture emotion on virtually every page of every book.”
— Statesman Journal (Oregon)“This is a heartwarming, easy read with a twist of realism that readers of all ages will enjoy. Great for daughters to give to their mothers…[a] classic tale of growing up and moving on.”
— Library Journal" Picked this book up because I've read and enjoyed a handful of Susan Wiggs books and my Mom is a big quilter, so I thought I might enjoy this. Oh my, this book has almost NO real story to it...just a bunch of sentiments around a daughter going to college. There were no big events (okay, maybe one), no big mystery, no big problems to solve, etc...maybe that's the point. Wow- guess this book is geared towards the quilting-age-crowd (they can't handle big excitement?), not the 30-somethings. I (kind of) recommend this book to people who like to quilt AND who have an only daughter who is about to go off to college. "
— Sandy, 2/15/2014" A bit sappy and sentimental. It was ok. "
— Tif, 2/12/2014" Good book, heartfelt quick read "
— Michelle, 1/19/2014" I liked this book, but it occasionally made me tear up since my mom dropped me off and I know (hope) I will one day drop Kennedy off at college. That being said, it was occasionally a little predictable "
— Anna-, 1/18/2014" Listened to this on audio and enjoyed but have definitely read Susan Wiggs books I liked more. "
— Laura, 1/12/2014" I love Susan Wiggs' books! Can't get enough of her contemporary romances! But this one just didn't hit the mark for me. No, it's not a romance, which I knew going in, but I just didn't find excitement in it. It was a slow read and I just couldn't get into it! Was waiting patiently throughout the book for the exciting part and I didn't find it! Still a true fan though!! "
— Margaret, 1/7/2014" VERY fast read - I didn't think it needed the Epilogue at all; I thought it took away from the ending. "
— Maggie, 1/3/2014" Giving it a 3 star rating is stretching it a bit. It was not one of my favorites. It went off in all directions, and parts just didn't fit..... "
— Denise, 12/20/2013" Overly sentimental book about Mom separating from daughter going to college. I was delighted when they finally said goodbye. "
— Barbara, 12/16/2013" Definitely not my favorite. Only about a very small topic, and not one I could relate to. "
— Shauna, 12/5/2013" I only read this because it came free with my Kobo for mother's day. Smarmy sappy blech. "
— Heather, 11/20/2013" Middle-age chick lit does not appeal to me. Now I know. An easy read, almost embarrasingly so. "
— Kathryn, 11/12/2013" I like the plot but still need something to fresh up the story. Some part is boring. But good enough to finish it. "
— Nattaporn, 10/28/2013" I wish I'd had this book to read about 15 years ago! "
— Nikki, 8/15/2013" I started this, and it was ok, but I was just afraid it was going to be over emotional about a mom taking her daughter off to college. And I just wasn't up to that. I may try reading it later. "
— Ann, 8/6/2013" I was not captivated by the book. I kept thinking something has to happen. "
— Mary, 1/16/2013" Nice job of portraying a mother trying to impose her life on her daughter. "
— Chris, 10/31/2012" Good, quick read. Explores the emotion a mother feels when children leave the nest. A tear jerker at times. "
— Marjorie, 10/27/2012" Concept was good but did not like the writing "
— Bonnie, 10/2/2012" Mother & daughter go on a cross country drive & bond over a quilt. While the daughter teaches her mother, the small life events we experience, are what write our story. "
— Amy, 1/17/2012" Not as enjoyable as her other books. Focused too much on the mother's rambling repetive thoughts and emotions about her daughter's departure to college. "
— tbears, 11/8/2011" Easy read not the best I have read. "
— Jo, 9/30/2011" This was a fun easy read. Could relate a lot to the mother. It's hard to watch your child grow into an young adult and learn to let go. "
— Jenn, 6/23/2011" I loved this...especially given that I have one starting college soon. And I read it in one night. "
— Carol, 5/21/2011" More like a short story. I think you were suppose to feel a WHOLE lot between this mother and daughter pair. I did but not enough. A little boring at times and much too predictable. "
— Jane, 5/19/2011" A fast read all about a mother and daughter's final days before the daughter goes off to college. "
— Mary, 5/15/2011" A touching Mother/Daughter story. The ending was a nice surprise. Quick read also. "
— Barretts, 5/11/2011" This was ok. Not as good as Susan Wigg's other books though. Decent ending. "
— Merceda, 5/9/2011" Just could not get into this book. "
— Eileen, 5/4/2011" Read this book as my daughter and I were visiting colleges, it fit perfectly with our activity. It was a quick and entertaining read. "
— Jenny, 5/3/2011" A bit sappy and sentimental. It was ok. "
