"I recommend investing in this short 45-minute audio book read by the author, Katherine Centers, because it is the perfect segue into both Margaret Jacobsen’s story in How to Walk Away and Cassie Hanwell’s story in Things You Save in a Fire. Using the first person, singular perspective with Cassie as the narrator, Centers immediately immerses us in the fire fighters’ thoughts, professional attitude and teamwork amid the excitement of responding to a plane crash (fortunately not an everyday occurrence) and saving the girl in the plane. I happened to read Things You Save in a Fire before reading How to Walk Away with several of Centers’ other books in between, and I did not catch that the two main characters had a connection, which Centers beautifully lays out in The Girl in the Plane. While it is not necessary to listen to this “introduction” to enjoy either of the other two books, I do recommend it. Why deprive yourself of the rich texture and focus Centers stages with delft strokes for these two strong women? It’s also an opportunity to meet a few of the secondary characters from those two books. And frankly, it’s a great short story all on its own. "
