""Family Blessings" is about a mom named Lee who has a son that works for the local police department, named Greg. Greg's best friend, Chris is also a police officer. One afternoon, Lee got a phone call from the police department saying that someone got into a very bad motorcycle accident. Since the accident was so bad that had a hard time identifying who the person was so Lee had to tell them if that person was Greg. Unfortuanately, it was Greg. Lee was full of grief and didn't know what she would do without Greg. Nobody really helped Lee cope with the loss of her son except Chris. About a year after his death, Chris and Lee started to develop feelings for eachother. They started going on dates and falliing in love. The only problem was that Lee was about 45 years old and Chris was about 23. If word got out that they were dating, Lee's family would be disgusted with her. Lee's daughter actually had a crush on Chris and that hurt her daughter a lot to think her mom would do that to her. Lee's family was very mad about this but they soon realized that Chris made Lee very happy and slowy accepted their relationship. This story takes place in Anoka, Minnesota. One of the problems in this story are that Lee and her family were not talking for about three months because they were so disappointed in her. Another problem is the fact that Lee co-owned a floral shop with her sister. Once her sister found out about Chris, Lee's sister wouldn't even talk to her and it would be kind of hard to run a business without talking to eachother.I gave this book a four out of five because I really liked it and it always kept my attention. I think young adults and teenagers could read this book. Anyone that really likes romance and tragedy will enjoy this book."
— Kelsey (4 out of 5 stars)
" Loved her style. WOW "
— Dianna, 1/25/2014" Really a good story, but not my favorite of Ms. Spencers. It took me a while to get into this one, then I think it got better, and then it disappointed me again before I got to the end. Overall, it was well written and I would recommend it to someone else, but not one that I will probably reread over and over. "
— Season, 1/19/2014" Rather predictable, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Very emotional in spots. As I got into the book, it became obvious that it was written in a much more innocent time -- checked the publication date, and was write. How times have changed. "
— Deb, 1/15/2014" Fluffy romance. Older woman, younger man. Read it years ago. "
— Tammra, 1/12/2014" I am rating this book relatively high although I can't say I enjoyed it as much as other Spencer books--but that is just me. It was very well-written and I could definitely see how the passion would develop, but the cougar-romance theme just wasn't my cup of tea. "
— Lola4, 1/5/2014" Tragic but touching and I do love some of the other books I have read by LaVyrle. Family dynamics can be a blessing and a curse. Easy read that kept my attention and I enjoyed the characters. "
— Denise, 1/2/2014" I like this author but this isn't one of her better books. "
— Judy, 11/12/2013" I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked the older woman/younger man premise. "
— Gaynell, 11/9/2013" Just a typical romance novel that starts with tragedy and ends with some steamy sex scenes... oh, yeah, and love. "
— Emily, 10/27/2013" The best part about this book was it takes place in Anoka, MN and the author includes all the local landmarks that I'm so familiar with...including a small scene that takes place on Crooked Lake (our lake). "
— Rachael, 9/8/2013" Love the younger man older woman premise. "
— Julie, 9/5/2013" Spencer has no fear when it comes to "untouchable" topics. This plot is no different. "
— Doreen, 5/22/2013" Great book.. I would read again "
— Jane, 12/10/2012" A widowed mother loses her oldest son tragically. Her son's best friend steps in to help the family that he's come to know and love out of a sense of obligation to his friend. A May/December romance begins as friendship and turns to love. Beautifully written. "
— Theresa, 10/25/2012" I quite like the older woman with younger man theme.. "
— Ingrid, 7/16/2012" A 45 year old woman falls in love with a young man 15 years her junior. I had something in common with her, I had dated and been wildly in love with a man 13 years my junior. So I really liked this book. "
— Shellie, 6/12/2012" just through the storyline, I had a really difficult time with this book. It wasn't my favorite book of hers at all. I thought it also came off as predictable and forced. "
— Naomi, 5/22/2012" Read during my trip to Sicily. I liked it, liked it a lot, but for me it's not a 5* read. "
— NatÄlija, 2/23/2012" When all you want is a well-written trashy romance, Lavyrle's your lady! "
— Myonly, 9/30/2011" Reading a book written by LaVyrle Spencer is never a disappointment. Another great story from one of my all time favorite authors. "

— Lola4, 11/12/2010" Probably high 3 stars. A very unusual story of a 40-something mum who just lost her son ... and falls in love (and he with her) with her son's friend. Very absorbing. "
