Publisher Description

An indispensable reference for anyone who knows how to read—or wants to fool people into thinking they do—The Funny Thing Is... is sure to make you laugh.

Ellen DeGeneres published her first book of comic essays, the #1 bestselling My Point...And I Do Have One, way back in 1996. Not one to rest on her laurels, the witty star of stage and screen has since dedicated her life to writing a hilarious new book. That book is this book.

After years of painstaking, round-the-clock research, surviving on a mere twenty minutes of sleep a night, and collaborating with lexicographers, plumbers, and mathematicians, DeGeneres has crafted a work that is both easy to use and very funny. Along with her trademark ramblings, The Funny Thing Is... contains hundreds of succinct insights into her psyche and offers innovative features including:

-More than 50,000 simple, short words arranged in sentences that form paragraphs.

-Thousands of observations on everyday life—from terrible fashion trends to how to handle seating arrangements for a Sunday brunch with Paula Abdul, Diane Sawyer, and Eminem.

-All twenty-six letters of the alphabet.

"Actually listened to this book while working, which is the reason I give it four stars . . . not for literary merit (obviously), but for the "easy on the ears and mind while working" factor. High entertainment, but not so high you can't concentrate on what's at hand. Good for a few chuckles and lightheartedness. Kind, classy humor. Like having a best friend who tells solid jokes and you leave feeling better."

— Mical (4 out of 5 stars)

" Ellen once again takes you into her world of oddities and off-wall thinking. The story concepts are great and some of her new jokes are great but the book, overall, lacks the punch from her first book. The humor level is not has high as the comedy material she threw at you in reading"..my point, and I do have one." Many times in the book I felt that she was trying to hard to get a laugh out of the reader or just pulling at random topics to make funny. The book still made me laugh and is a great read during breaks at work or before bed. A quick read for a lazy afternoon. "

" The funny thing is about "THe Funny this is..." a lot of it is verbatim, with each punctual mark in tact and everything, her HBO Special which is also brilliant in it's own right. So, if you're off book like me and like following along, like karaoke, (totes kidding, but not)it may be fun to follow along... "

" Not a bad book - it had it's very funny moments, like when she was talking about the only way she could eat just ONE piece of pizza is if after eating one slice she konked herself in the head with a rock. However, the ending chapter was nonsense, and several chapters were pulled directly from her HBO special, which she referenced filming while she was writing this book. Not a great idea to share material between the two when they came out so close together. However, it kept my attention, and I really do like Ellen so it was worth the time! "
