Ellen DeGeneres published her first book of comic essays, the #1 bestselling My Point...and I Do Have One, way back in 1996. Not one to rest on her laurels, the witty star of stage and screen has since dedicated her life to writing a hilarious new book. That book is this audiobook.
After years of painstaking, round-the-clock research, surviving on a mere twenty minutes of sleep a night, and collaborating with lexicographers, plumbers, and mathematicians, DeGeneres has crafted a work that is both easy on the ears and very funny. Along with her trademark ramblings, The Funny Thing Is...contains hundreds of succinct insights into her psyche, and offers innovative features including:
• More than 50,000 simple, short words arranged in sentences that form paragraphs.
• Thousands of observations on everyday life -- from terrible fashion trends to how to handle seating arrangements for a Sunday brunch with Paula Abdul, Diane Sawyer, and Eminem.
• All twenty-six letters of the alphabet read aloud.
Sure to make you laugh, The Funny Thing Is...is Ellen in top form. Download and start listening now!

Listener Opinions

" Same feelings towards this book as her previous book. It's all just exaggerated/funny stories. I would like to get to know Ellen. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Chris | 2/15/2014

" Ellen once again takes you into her world of oddities and off-wall thinking. The story concepts are great and some of her new jokes are great but the book, overall, lacks the punch from her first book. The humor level is not has high as the comedy material she threw at you in reading"..my point, and I do have one." Many times in the book I felt that she was trying to hard to get a laugh out of the reader or just pulling at random topics to make funny. The book still made me laugh and is a great read during breaks at work or before bed. A quick read for a lazy afternoon. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Nicole Zimmer | 2/15/2014

" Really 2.5 stars, just because a lot of the chapters are from her stand up.. which is WAY funnier when you can see/hear her doing it. There are some little gems in here that I haven't heard before, tho. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Tommi | 2/13/2014

" This woman is by far the funniest chick in the world. I love her humor and how she makes life so light, the way I think it is meant to be. Read this book, you will die laughing. "

  • 5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Nick Cearley | 2/8/2014

" The funny thing is about "THe Funny this is..." a lot of it is verbatim, with each punctual mark in tact and everything, her HBO Special which is also brilliant in it's own right. So, if you're off book like me and like following along, like karaoke, (totes kidding, but not)it may be fun to follow along... "

  • 4 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 54 out of 5 Mical | 2/7/2014

" Actually listened to this book while working, which is the reason I give it four stars . . . not for literary merit (obviously), but for the "easy on the ears and mind while working" factor. High entertainment, but not so high you can't concentrate on what's at hand. Good for a few chuckles and lightheartedness. Kind, classy humor. Like having a best friend who tells solid jokes and you leave feeling better. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Patrick Bender | 2/7/2014

" Not a bad book - it had it's very funny moments, like when she was talking about the only way she could eat just ONE piece of pizza is if after eating one slice she konked herself in the head with a rock. However, the ending chapter was nonsense, and several chapters were pulled directly from her HBO special, which she referenced filming while she was writing this book. Not a great idea to share material between the two when they came out so close together. However, it kept my attention, and I really do like Ellen so it was worth the time! "

" I think you can only like this book if you already like Ellen DeGeneres and find her funny otherwise this book might not be a good start to know her .... "

" I love Ellen but this was unfortunately not as funny as I hoped it would be. It had it's moments, but for me it ended up just being a quick break in between two more serious books. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Sam Johnson | 12/21/2013
