"I enjoyed this book, as it was different type of read for me. But there was a lot of humor, to go with some rough times. Review to follow close to release date."

— Barb (4 out of 5 stars)

Quotes

  • “Touching, gritty, real, and often laugh-out-loud funny. Highly recommended. A real-life romance, with every kind of beef.”

    — Ree Drummond, New York Times bestselling author
  • “An irresistible, post-feminist Taming of the Shrew. Don’t be scared by the premise. This is not a story about a woman relinquishing her identity. Quite the opposite. It is a riveting tale about how a brilliant, strong-minded woman liberated herself from a dreary, male-bashing, reality-denying feminism.”

    — Christina Hoff Sommers, author of The War Against Boys
  • “Valdes has written a thought-provoking exploration of her own missteps and the tremendous obstacles she has overcome to achieve happiness in the second half of her life.”

" 1-star is probably generous, but I'll grant it since I don't think any book in the history of books has ever made me so incredibly angry. At least she's finally recognized this as an abusive relationship (well, somewhat since she keeps making excuses and denying the rape). "

" This was an interesting book. I've heard a lot about it as it's been a bit controversial. It was an okay read. As a fairly modern woman, I was bothered by the submission/control issues she had with the cowboy. He was/is like a caveman who reads poetry. Overall, I'm glad I read it even if only to see what the fuss was all about. "

" I loved this book for it's ability to make me think- and apply! It was insightful, sassy, sarcastic, intelligent, emotional, and challenging. "

" A glimpse into the private negotiations of relationships that often make no sense to outside observers. In my opinion, the author's pendulum swung way too far in the opposite direction; however, perhaps that is what it took for her to understand herself better in the long run. "

" I really enjoyed this book. I found it to be an easy read and thought provoking. It was after finishing it that I learned about all the drama not within the pages and honestly, all of that craziness led to me feeling tainted about my original, less informed opinion. "

" Others have said it before me, but it holds true. This is a romanticized version of an abusive relationship. Knowing now that the relationship has ended because she alleges rape and abuse at his hands, it just holds true. "
