When Pasquala Rumalda Quintana de Archuleta (Paski)'s cartoonist father returns to Taos from a business trip wearing designer sunglasses and a velour Juicy men's track suit, she knows her life is taking a turn for the worse. Paski and her father move to Southern California, where his comic strip has been optioned for a movie.
At her new high school, money is everything and the haters rule - especially beautiful and cruel Jessica Nguyen. While Paski tries to concentrate on mountain biking and not thinking too much about ultra-hot Chris Cabrera, she is troubled by disturbing visions. Her psychic grandmother warned her that ignoring her gift of premonitory visions would lead to trouble. Can Paski ever find a home in the land of the glamorous haters?

"This book was amazing i hated to finish it and literally sat on the edge of my seat till the end of this book. I didnt want to read this because of the bland description they gave but i found that i had owned this book and decided since i own it why not give it a shot and im soo soo glad that I did because it was so amazing and i think everyone can relate i loved the charecters expecially Paski and Chris and i even liked Andrew despite his imperfections personality wise. And the twins were very cute and funny and made me laugh at how silly they can be what can i say besides the fact that i really loved this book!"

“Paski’s voice is breezy, adolescent, and somewhat Holden Caulfieldesque.”
— Kliatt“This modern fairy tale is filled with everything—an in-crowd, an out-crowd, life-threatening danger, perfect boyfriends, excitement, adventure, romance, the psychic/spiritual world, and a happy ending…Teen girls will love this book.”
— VOYA“Paski’s first-person narrative is lively and honest as she faces difficult situations and learns to trust her instincts.”
— School Library Journal“Haters is a welcome addition to any chick-lit reading pile…Paski’s strong, but feels vulnerable about her clothes and who’s really worth being friends with, making her character believable and likeable.”
— Chicago Sunday Sun-Times“Fresh, original, and ulimately heartwarming, Haters will be passed from teen to teen as word of mouth spreads about this courageous coming-of-age story.”
— BookPage“Valdes-Rogriguez brilliantly captures the sometimes nasty ways girls act toward each other, and she also illustrates the importance of a girl finding her inner voice if she’s ever going to learn to respect herself and others.”
— New York Post“Exotic, well-defined characters clad in designer fashions, luxurious settings, dark foreshadowing, and intensely romantic scenes.”
— Publishers Weekly“So humorous and real that readers will be hooked after the first page.”
— Library Media Connection" this book was actually really good! "
— Markie, 2/19/2014" LOVE THIS BOOK.READ IT NOW. "
— Cassie, 2/17/2014" I'm a junior high school teacher and thus feel "highly qualified" to review such a book. And as one who is uniquely aware of the social challenges and "games" adolescents play, I can say this book is a terrible picture of what life is really like for these kids. Unfortunately, I think this book would give teenagers ideas for what rude and mean and down-right cruel things they think they should be doing to one another. I really did not enjoy even one page of this book. "
— Megan, 1/26/2014" Paski is Mexican-American in name only. BMX, motorcross interest, and standing up to bullies, very fun, occasional serious issues mentioned "

— ☆•Käthÿÿ•☆, 7/14/2012" This was really good for a young adult novel. The lead character seemed to be really level headed and approached all obstacles in the story with the right amount of rebellion. I liked her. Definitely a must-read. "
— Xochilt, 5/29/2012" A wonderful young adult read. A hispanic girl from Taos moves to the OC and meets up with the popular crowd the "haters". Wonderflly honest about how teens think and feel without being preachy yet stll imparting good lessons. A wonderful first YA book highly reccomended to all. "
— Abby, 11/30/2011" was a great book but there was a sex scene in it that was a litte bit graphic. personally i didn't think it was needed, but hey other than that it was an ok boo. more of a teenager finds love type thing. And her journey. on finding love. err? "

— Theresa, 8/31/2010" This book was kind of like a serious case of mean girls. But I did enjoy it. But something i hated hated about it was how many times the main character said she was going to cry and never did. "
— Kellie, 8/23/2010" I think the author did well hitting the right note of teen lingo and latino culture. It was an easy listen. <br/>I didn't like (SPOILER) that the main character sold out. She initially appreciated herself and people for their differences and then assimilated herself in every way. Boring. "
— Mellissa, 8/9/2010" Paski is Mexican-American in name only. BMX, motorcross interest, and standing up to bullies, very fun, occasional serious issues mentioned "
