At first glance, Lee might seem like an average fifteen year old, shooting the breeze with his friends around a campfire, crushing on his friend Dana, sassing the assistant principal at school, but Lee has a little bit more responsibility than your average kid: he’s the next Alien Hunter, bequeathed with the List of hidden alien outlaws living and lurking on Earth in disguise. All must be destroyed in order to protect the human race from eventual takeover. That’s a big job for one teenager.

Lee’s father had the title of Alien Hunter until number one on the List, The Prayer, killed him and Lee’s mother in cold blood. Lee was just three. Ever since, his supreme abilities—being able to change shape and conjure up his long-dead parents out of thin-air—have gotten him through life, not to mention countless battles with aliens that roam the Earth.

Next on the list is number six, Ergent Seth—a crude, grotesque creature and a pretentious Hollywood film director/producer. Lee’s quest to search out and destroy number-six leads him right into the arms of super-cute Sarah Wilson—and a deadly trap that takes him to Ergent Seth’s spacecraft. It’s heading for a place beyond Lee’s comprehension: his home planet. And it turns out that Earth, Lee’s adopted home, isn’t the only planet that needs to be saved.

James Patterson’s exciting new series is full of high wish-fulfillment fantasy, humor, and of course, all of the suspense that Patterson fans have come to expect. Only this time, it’s literally out of this world.

Quotes & Awards

  • “Patterson jumps on the superheroes bandwagon with contributor Ledwidge and delivers the adventures of Daniel X, a superpowered alien whose mission is to defend Earth from more malignant, threatening aliens…The production is sparsely sprinkled with sound effects, which work quite well and add to the story…Milo Ventimiglia makes it worth the listen. His timing and inflection match perfectly with Daniel, the first-person protagonist. He sounds youthful enough to be believable as Daniel and easily transitions to other character voices within the story.”

" never thought JP would do a book like this.....aliens?!?! weird.....not sure if i liked it... "

" This book has it all - a boy with superpowers, humor, families, aliens, friends, etc.. Daniel is only 3 when his parents are killed by the "Prayer" and he is left alone to survive. He has a list and is chasing and killing the aliens on the list to protect the earth. This is a QUICK read - short chapters. Great book for reluctant readers and Fantasy/SciFi fans. "

" In the beginning I really liked the voice of the main character, but it soon became predictable and boring. However, my 8-year-old son listened to it with me, and he loved it. I'm giving it three stars because it hits its target audience. "

  • 2 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 52 out of 5 Carina | 1/9/2014

" I really don't think this book is as awful as everyone is saying that it is. I mean. I'm 21-years-old, so I didn't go into this book thinking that it was going to be the most stimulating read of my life. It was written for youngsters, and I think youngsters would enjoy it. It wasn't that awful. The chapters are short, which I think is helpful to kids who don't have the attention spans to sit down and focus for tens of pages to get through just one chapter. I think my nephew will greatly enjoy this book, and I intend on letting him read it. It is what it is. One shouldn't go into a book written for kids expecting Tolstoy and one won't be disappointed. "

" This was the first alien book that I have ever read. I thought it was okay but it definitely could have been better. Just like the maximum ride series, it tended to be a quick read with very short chapters. "

  • 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 Kimmi | 12/18/2013

" Not my usual style of reading. However, it is by James Patterson, therefore a very fast and good read. I prefer Patterson's Alex Cross, etc. but will always read whatever he writes. "

" It's a good mix of Men in Black and Alex Rider. Really good "boy" book. It appears to be the start of a series. There was a lot of adventure and witty comebacks by the main character, Daniel. I really liked the idea of his powers to create people from his memories. It was an interesting thought. "

" hmmm...interesting plot and character but the dialgue (where's the spell check on this thing?) was consistantly stilted and "twists" just a little too outlandish for even my eclectic taste. not that they were too "strange" persay, rather too ubrupt. we'll see if the next in the series are any better "
