Publisher Description

Discover the heart-pounding start to the #1 bestselling series from James Patterson! Daniel X is on the hunt for the being who killed his parents, but danger—and the world's deadliest aliens—lurk in the shadows.

Daniel X has the greatest power of all: the ability to create. His secret abilities—like being able to manipulate objects and animals with his mind or to recreate himself in any shape he chooses—have helped him survive. But Daniel doesn't have a normal life. He is the protector of the earth, the Alien Hunter, with a mission beyond anyone’s imagination.

From the day that his parents were brutally murdered before of his very eyes, Daniel has used his unique gifts to hunt down their assassin. Finally, with the help of The List, bequeathed to him in his parents' dying breath, he is closing in on the killer.

Now, on his own, he vows to take on his father's mission—and to wreak vengeance in the process.

"It's a good mix of Men in Black and Alex Rider. Really good "boy" book. It appears to be the start of a series. There was a lot of adventure and witty comebacks by the main character, Daniel. I really liked the idea of his powers to create people from his memories. It was an interesting thought."

Quotes

  • “Patterson jumps on the superheroes bandwagon with contributor Ledwidge and delivers the adventures of Daniel X, a superpowered alien whose mission is to defend Earth from more malignant, threatening aliens…The production is sparsely sprinkled with sound effects, which work quite well and add to the story…Milo Ventimiglia makes it worth the listen. His timing and inflection match perfectly with Daniel, the first-person protagonist. He sounds youthful enough to be believable as Daniel and easily transitions to other character voices within the story.”

    — Publishers Weekly audio review
  • “Moving at a furious speed, Patterson and Gout deliver an action-packed, sci-fi thrill ride perfectly suited to a young male readership.”

    — Booklist
  • “Meet Daniel, whose role as the Alien Hunter is to protect Earth. Patterson says it’s the best story he’s ever written.”

    — Library Journal
  • “They could not have done better than Milo Ventimiglia as the narrator.”

    — AudioFile
  • “The action-packed story line, kinetic computer-generated art, and Patterson’s name are sure to attract readers.”

    — School Library Journal

" This book has it all - a boy with superpowers, humor, families, aliens, friends, etc.. Daniel is only 3 when his parents are killed by the "Prayer" and he is left alone to survive. He has a list and is chasing and killing the aliens on the list to protect the earth. This is a QUICK read - short chapters. Great book for reluctant readers and Fantasy/SciFi fans. "

" In the beginning I really liked the voice of the main character, but it soon became predictable and boring. However, my 8-year-old son listened to it with me, and he loved it. I'm giving it three stars because it hits its target audience. "

" I really don't think this book is as awful as everyone is saying that it is. I mean. I'm 21-years-old, so I didn't go into this book thinking that it was going to be the most stimulating read of my life. It was written for youngsters, and I think youngsters would enjoy it. It wasn't that awful. The chapters are short, which I think is helpful to kids who don't have the attention spans to sit down and focus for tens of pages to get through just one chapter. I think my nephew will greatly enjoy this book, and I intend on letting him read it. It is what it is. One shouldn't go into a book written for kids expecting Tolstoy and one won't be disappointed. " This was the first alien book that I have ever read. I thought it was okay but it definitely could have been better. Just like the maximum ride series, it tended to be a quick read with very short chapters. "
