The greatest superpower of all isn't to be part spider, part man, or to cast magic spells -- the greatest power is the power to create.
Daniel has that power.
Daniel's secret abilities -- like being able to manipulate objects and animals with his mind or to recreate himself in any shape he chooses -- have helped him survive. But Daniel doesn't have a normal life. He is the protector of the earth, the Alien Hunter, with a mission beyond what anyone could imagine.
From the day that his parents were brutally murdered in front of his very eyes, Daniel has used his unique gifts to hunt down their assassin. Finally, with the help of The List bequeathed to him in his parents' dying breath, he has located the killer.
Now, on his own, he vows to take on his father's mission--and to have vengeance in the process.

"It's a good mix of Men in Black and Alex Rider. Really good "boy" book. It appears to be the start of a series. There was a lot of adventure and witty comebacks by the main character, Daniel. I really liked the idea of his powers to create people from his memories. It was an interesting thought."

“Patterson jumps on the superheroes bandwagon with contributor Ledwidge and delivers the adventures of Daniel X, a superpowered alien whose mission is to defend Earth from more malignant, threatening aliens…The production is sparsely sprinkled with sound effects, which work quite well and add to the story…Milo Ventimiglia makes it worth the listen. His timing and inflection match perfectly with Daniel, the first-person protagonist. He sounds youthful enough to be believable as Daniel and easily transitions to other character voices within the story.”
— Publishers Weekly audio review“Moving at a furious speed, Patterson and Gout deliver an action-packed, sci-fi thrill ride perfectly suited to a young male readership.”
— Booklist“Meet Daniel, whose role as the Alien Hunter is to protect Earth. Patterson says it’s the best story he’s ever written.”
— Library Journal“They could not have done better than Milo Ventimiglia as the narrator.”
— AudioFile“The action-packed story line, kinetic computer-generated art, and Patterson’s name are sure to attract readers.”
— School Library JournalThey could not have done better than Milo Ventimiglia as the narrator.
— Audiofile" never thought JP would do a book like this.....aliens?!?! weird.....not sure if i liked it... "
— Claire, 2/7/2014" This book has it all - a boy with superpowers, humor, families, aliens, friends, etc.. Daniel is only 3 when his parents are killed by the "Prayer" and he is left alone to survive. He has a list and is chasing and killing the aliens on the list to protect the earth. This is a QUICK read - short chapters. Great book for reluctant readers and Fantasy/SciFi fans. "
— Tina, 1/31/2014" In the beginning I really liked the voice of the main character, but it soon became predictable and boring. However, my 8-year-old son listened to it with me, and he loved it. I'm giving it three stars because it hits its target audience. "
— Lois, 1/14/2014" I really don't think this book is as awful as everyone is saying that it is. I mean. I'm 21-years-old, so I didn't go into this book thinking that it was going to be the most stimulating read of my life. It was written for youngsters, and I think youngsters would enjoy it. It wasn't that awful. The chapters are short, which I think is helpful to kids who don't have the attention spans to sit down and focus for tens of pages to get through just one chapter. I think my nephew will greatly enjoy this book, and I intend on letting him read it. It is what it is. One shouldn't go into a book written for kids expecting Tolstoy and one won't be disappointed. "
— Carina, 1/9/2014" This was the first alien book that I have ever read. I thought it was okay but it definitely could have been better. Just like the maximum ride series, it tended to be a quick read with very short chapters. "
— Claire, 1/3/2014" Not my usual style of reading. However, it is by James Patterson, therefore a very fast and good read. I prefer Patterson's Alex Cross, etc. but will always read whatever he writes. "
— Kimmi, 12/18/2013" Very interesting can't wait to read the second one "
— Pnpeters17, 12/17/2013" Despite being more adolscent than I usually read, this one had a very fun story. I actually give it 3.5 stars "
— James, 12/17/2013" I am on vacation laying by a pool so that probably the only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. If you haven't read the maximum ride series, read that one. If you have read it, don't read this book. "
— Aurora, 11/21/2013" Just not for me, but I think it would be appealing to young readers, maybe ages 8 to 10. I was highly disappointed, though, because I enjoyed The Angel Experiment so much. "
— Tara, 11/12/2013" Listen to the audio book. "
— Sarah, 11/6/2013" Patterson is a good writer, this however is not really my genre... not a bad read, but not one I'm crazy about. "
— R., 10/3/2013" This is defintely for preteen and teen boys. "
— Paula, 3/17/2013" I understand this is supposed to entice middle school age kids to read. I thought it was way too simplistic to keep anyone's attention. "
— Susanbuchs, 2/10/2013" I thought this was a great book. But some parts got really hard to push through. The long scene where he is doing nothing but describing stuff I mainly skipped because I was like " I'm here for the action not details!" "
— Zachary, 2/7/2013" This was a quirky, fun read. Love Daniel and his cast of odd ball characters. Like a comic book novel, but with murder and mayhem on a large scale. I'm looking forward to reading more from this series. "
— David, 12/31/2012" hmmm...interesting plot and character but the dialgue (where's the spell check on this thing?) was consistantly stilted and "twists" just a little too outlandish for even my eclectic taste. not that they were too "strange" persay, rather too ubrupt. we'll see if the next in the series are any better "
— Danielle, 11/29/2012" freakin sweet "
— Craig, 9/6/2012" great series for sci fi fans "
— Joey, 5/27/2012" This reminded me of the writing style used in The Lightning Thief series and thankfully that was fine by me because I loved it. Short and well-written chapters that make the story flow quickly and keep the story easy to follow. Looking forward to reading more of this series. "
— Kevin, 1/21/2012" welllll....it was ok. the writing seemed a little...off. i dont know why. I'm not a huge fan of sci fi, so maybe thats why. The first few chapters were my favorite, and then the plot just dragged. "
— Sara, 10/11/2011" What's with the disco music on the audio version? I think that's what did me in. Lame. "
— Genevieve, 9/2/2011" The main character was really arrogant, and nothing in the book was believable. the whole idea of "alien hunter" was cool, but he made everything sound so cheesy. "
— Laurel, 6/1/2011" Good book. Bring some Sci-Fi and Daniel X into your favorites. "
— Superdog23, 5/23/2011" really cool book. i usually only read romance but i really liked this book!<br/> "
— Sarahi, 5/20/2011" I enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and full of action. It started out kind of confusing bt towards the end it became more clear. It was a totally thrilling ride. "
— Sarah, 5/20/2011" This was the first alien book that I have ever read. I thought it was okay but it definitely could have been better. Just like the maximum ride series, it tended to be a quick read with very short chapters. "
— Claire, 5/17/2011" SO GREAT! I :) Daniel. He's soo cool and weird. My favourite character is dana tho. "
— Corrise, 5/10/2011" It was pretty good.... I didn't like it as much as Witch and Wizard. "
— Hannah, 5/3/2011" Patterson is a good writer, this however is not really my genre... not a bad read, but not one I'm crazy about. "
— R., 5/1/2011" can't wait to read the next one :) I'm so excited!!!! "
— Sandra, 4/28/2011" I loved this book. The way that he portrays the main character is amazing. All the special abilities that Daniel has to be able to fight aliens is awesome, and I was shocked with everything he had been through. "
— Tokio, 4/25/2011" will defitnitely read this series! "
— Shaz, 4/20/2011" this book is super awesome!!!! "
