" I think Conn Iggulden's Conqueror series is one of the finest historical fiction epics ever written, and maybe it spoiled me for this story which lacks energy and absorbing interest. The narration is fine, and there are enjoyable stretches of narrative but in the end I was wondering why the author bothered to write the book, which is not a great recommendation. "
